Huh? Since when has QLD been independent from Australia? Did I miss some referendum somewhere along the line?
Hi golden sephiroth, yes, here in Australia voting is compulsory for the over 18s. $50.00 fine for each non-voting offence.
Voting is a privilege, that's why we fought so hard for women & aboriginals to be allowed to vote.

The question should be - How come they allow stupid Queenslanders (who can't even spell "independent" or know what it means) vote? I mean there are a whole lot of stupid ignorant morons out there who have a say in choosing our next government. Jesus! We are in trouble.

Got news for you, mate. Your a state, not an independent nation just another state, and so you have to vote in the Federal Elections just like the rest of us.
Geez, talk about the state's separatism.

where on earth do you get your information from ...
No offense intended to MOST of my QLD mates .. but the rest of the states and territories LIVE for the day QLD buggars off and UNFORTUNATELY that day is YET to come.
;)
EDIT: please don't be too critical of golden sephiroth we are (as far as I know) the only nation where it is COMPULSARY to vote ... and we can not expect that everybody else from other nations KNOW that .. Yahoo answers gives us the chance to educate one another ( if serious questions are being asked .. otherwise it's hard not to get snippetty)

Do you really HAVE to vote? I thought voting was supposed to be a privilege, not a form of punishment. If you actually do HAVE to vote, vote NO.
