Sorry. You can't hide from this.

In rich countries the cost of relocating people, replacing lost stuff, and fixing agriculture will be enormous. It could easily lead to a worldwide economic depression.

In poor countries desperate people will flee, possibly over borders. There could easily be instability, even war.

It's GLOBAL warming. You can't run and hide, you have to fix it.

EDIT - I understand Mike's frustration with Iran. But his idea, if successful, would lead to total global economic collapse. And people dying. We need to get off our dependence of oil, we can't just turn off the tap.

Become part of the solution, instead of part of the problem, and you won't have to worry about moving. If there were only a handful of "good" places, it would be pretty crowded there, don't you think?

I'd recommend anyplace on the planet Earth. It's been a good home for quite the while. It's quite peaceful, very beautiful, when viewed from space ....

Rather than figure out where to move to I recommend that you get involved in the political process to make the changes necessary to stop Global Warming.

One very good project right now is to encourage our politicians to support a blockade of Iran so that Iran cannot export oil.

A blockade of Iran would provide two very important benefits.

First:

A blockade of Iran would dramatically reduce the supply of oil available world wide.

The reduction in supply of oil would result in a dramatic reduction in the use of oil world wide and consequently a large reduction in the amount of carbon dioxide emissions, world wide.

Second:

A blockade of Iran would dramatically reduce the amount of revenue that Iran will have available to fund terrorism, buy nuclear weapons or nuclear weapons technology on the black market.

I recommend that you contact your elected representatives and let them know that you support a blockade of Iran so that Iran cannot export oil.

That one thing (blockade Iran) will do more to solve the problem of Global Warming than anything else that you can do.

And a blockade of Iran will solve many other problems as well.

First of all, those that preach that we are all going to die by then and that we need to run for the hill tops are really very sad cases of Kool Aid Drinkers. If the warming trend continues, then anywhere where it is nice right now will be nice in 40 years. Some, in their apparent panic, forget that we might rise a half degree in that time and water levels might rise a half a foot. Unless you are wading up to your neck in the ocean, you're probably going to make it. These people need to get a grip. Is there some disease that makes you forget reason and makes you convinced we're all going to die. By the way, there is a good chance we will be half a degree cooler as well.

In the next 40 years, there will likely be less change than occured in the last 100 years. Even the IPCC doesn't dispute that.

Inland, on a higher ground, don't go to Africa because that is about to split in half, and if you are in the us, go a little bit west(but stay inland) because we are going to have a mega tsunami due to the fact that a volcano top is about to fall into the ocean and displace ALOT of water...

any where provided we stop using cfcs, become more concious and keep our vehicles under check, use bicycles. see from now for the rest of your 40yrs you could do this and if we all like you join to do this why do you have to look for a new place. the rate of increase is only 0.7 deg per year and we can halt it if not able to bring it down.

I'd consider South Dakota. They have hot springs, great tourist attractions (for the people who will be visiting you), and good soil. Away from the touristy spots, land prices should be reasonable.

But it's hard to predict what global warming will do to the weather patterns. If it makes SD drier, you'll be in trouble. If it makes SD wetter, you might be sitting pretty.
