Is PNG the best type? Or JPEG? One that makes the picture look the best quality but doesn't take up too much space or isn't too big..

If you are editting a .png file for some reason, keep a .png file to come back to if you need to for some reason. When you get a photo that yo want to share, save it as a .jpg, or even a .gif, depending on your needs.

Editted, for myspace, etc..., they pretty much require .jpg, or .gif files.

If it is for a digital scrapbook and not for print save it as a jpg at a max of 96 dpi at size. Anything larger would be useless since your computer screen is generally in the 72 - 96 dpi resolution. If you do want to keep it for print a jpg would be fine, but keep it at 300 dpi at size.

Raw files are the best to save because it's like saving a negative, but you must shoot in raw. If you are working on a picture in an editor and intend to do more to it in the future, save it in TFF so there is no loss as you open the file many times. Once completed, save as a jpeg.

I believe myspace only accepts a few different types. JPEG is my favorite for that.

I can see why folks are saying "RAW," but for most applications this high-cost (in terms of filesize) just isn't necessary. JPG works perfecly fine for most applications.

RAW is actually useless unless you have high-end programs dedicated to processing RAW formats. Usually these programs must be supplied by the maker of your digital camera.

.JPGs are the most convenient file types to use, especially if you're posting it on-line. But for more professional or commercial accounts then RAW or TIFF is probably the way to go.

I agree with both AAs_627 and Perki88.
