I got my rat from a pert store when she was six weeks old, she did not carry any diseases, I don't believe thye will sell if they do carry diseases.

Yes, you can teach your rat tricks. My rat (Moo is her name) comes to me when I call her name. She can find food in a maze, she knows to stay and to come and I am teaching her how to stand up (easily done, by using food held just above their head). Rats are intellegent animals, and learn quickly.

Moo is nearly one, on the ninth of december.

Good Luck.

Rats are loyal only to the hand that feeds it. In a college psychology class, I taught a rat a number of skills. First it had to learn to press a bar in its cage to get food, then it had to learn that it had to press it more than once. Then it had to learn to wait an interval of time between successful presses. The biggest test was teaching it that it would only get food when pressing the bar if a light was on in the cage. The best part was teaching it to play basketball. It could dunk a ping pong ball like you wouldn't believe.

I once had a hampster that I taught to retreive peanuts from my shirt pocket. He would also sit up and beg. I suppose you could teach a rat some "cheesy " stuff like that . I don't believe that domesticated rats carry diseases.

I have a year old fancy Rat from PetCo and she is a great pet. She knows her name, and comes when I call it. She chases balls, gets her own food from the container and puts it into her bowl, and plays tug a war with shoe laces. It I had enough time I'm sure I could teacher her to do much more!

They are quite intelligent animals so you probably can teach them tricks. They are often timid for a while when you first get them but become very friendly with plenty of handling.

you can but it will take awhile and will be hard for the rat.
1. you can teach it to play dead
2. you can teach it to beg
3. you can teach it to roll over and give kisses

if you do these in this order you will be amazed.

No not most likely because they check them before they import them.
