sodium does a lot more harm than we really know. First off sodium makes you retain water and therefore hold on to water weight. Once you get rid of the sodium you get rid of the water. Sodium also increases your blood pressure and I have heard can even cause your heart to race. Foods to be careful of: ketchup, salt (obviously), drinks (energy especially), lunch meats. Good luck!

Besides high blood pressure you can end up deficient in potassium because sodium and potassium interact and a large excess of sodium leads to preferential absorption of sodium at the expense of potassium and the resulting potassium deficiency can cause cramps and a few other problems.

The biggest harm that excessive amounts of sodium could cause is a decrease in bone density, which could more easily lead to arthritis.

Well, if you try and eat it directly, it will react with the water in your mouth, burst into flame and melt your head, more or less. Is that a problem for you?
