The lowest 10% make $193,000
The highest 10% make $436,500

the rest earn somewhere in the middle there with the mean being just over $300,000 per year.

$300,000 per year breaks down to:
month = $25,000
week = $5769
day = $1153
hour = $145

this assumes a 52 week year with 40 hour weeks -- not the reality of what these people work.

Over a working lifetime of about 35 years (they have to go to med school before they can start work) it amounts to earning from working of about $10 million. That pretty much justifies a couple hundred thousand they spend on their education. ☺

add: an orthopedic surgeon is a bone doctor. The trauma surgeon we're talking about here is the doc in the emergency room that gets the nastiest of the nasty emergencies. Many aren't aware of this but a lot of these guys learn their trade in the military at war.
