Sorry for sounding harsh, but I don't understand why so many overweight people drink diet pop. Am I the only one who's known people that seem 'proud' that they choose DIET over regular?

This is because they have bought into the myth that low calorie, low fat will help you lose weight. This myth is perpetuated by the diet industries and is obviuosly making them a lot of money but making a huge, obese mess out of most Americans trying to shed pounds. The low fat, low calorie myth makes lots of people rich but at the same time everyone fat and sick.

I do believe that I'm fully qualified to answer your question. Overweight people (myself included) drink diet soda because it doesn't have any calories. They are perpetually on a diet (myself included) and just have a habit of choosing diet over regular.

Now I have never seen anyone proud to choose diet over regular. I've seen people flaunt the fact that they don't drink soda at all though.

Well I work in a conveinence store and I can tell you that ALOT of people drink diet pop and only about half of them are overweight. Did it ever occur to you that maybe they are drinking diet pop because of health reasons related to being overweight? People with diabetes cannot drink regular sugared pop . . . . hell they can hardly drink juice for that matter.
Now I have a question for you - what the hell made you so bitter in life? Almost all of your questions have a very negative undertone . . . . perhaps you should address your own issues first.

I would say that they like the flavor but may not want the sugar or calories. Just because a person is fat does not mean they eat only sweets or sugar. I know that my weight gain is from eating a lot, but usually very good food, not junk. And at 620 I have a lot of experience.

Thye think it is better than drinking full sugar soda and will help them to lose weight. But in reality the artificial sweeteners cause you to crave more sugar and has many other bad side effects also. Better to drink no soda but the sugared ones are actually better for you than the diet ones.

I think MAYBE becuase when they order a double cheeseburger, large fries, and a shake,The "diet" part of the soda makes them feel better and it makes them think they arent over doing it just because the soda has alittle less calories

EDIT>>>>I really dont mean to Stereo-Type!

They prefer it because the word "diet" makes them feel more secure about putting on the weight they don't really need anymore.
