For a threat to be taken seriously, you need two elements. 1) You must feel threaten by what is said and 2) you must believe the threat can be carried out.
If you have all two of the above, I do believe you should contact the authorities.
Threats should never be taken likely as actions are normally followed afterwards, so do tread carefully and no doubt you’ll make the right decision.
I wish you all the best and I do hope this was of some help.

Threats are a crime, especially if they are against your, or someone elses life or against you physically. Try to have a witness or it will be your word against theirs. Document the incident time and place and stay away from that person. Be carefull about retaliation, do what is the safest and wisest thing for you to do under the circumstances you are in. Don't be bullied, but do be carefull of your opponent. They like to say at a school I work at "Snitches get stiches" so do be carefull. Don't be afraid to talk to authorities just consider all the factors.

ok number one this person must have been close to you or something for you to know, unless he is a perosn that you just ahve heard of. What was the treat and think to yourself, could you or have you ever made the same threat to someone, like I would like to knock your teeth down your mouth or something small like that. Then if you feel like you need the law to be involved then do it. Buit just remember that when you start dealing with the law they tend to remember your name like you are someone bad and you begin a repuation and that is priceless to have, so for you won good think it out ok.

Yes because you never know just how serious they might be you need to report it as soon as possible and let people with power deal with them. Some bad things can happen when stuff like that is just blown off until its to late.

You have to contact Yahoo; It is a private entity and they must deal with your request.
You can also ask questions on the FBI cyber network or NSA websites. They will answer your questions, however, you must give them your name, and location because it is against the law to falsify claims of abuse or threats. Check those sites out.
