When I went through bootcamp they made us send a post card the 2nd or 3rd day there we were only allowed to write that we had made it safe and were fine and that we would write more latter.

Boot Camp Letters

Sorry, but it is going to take a while longer than that. My husband is a Marine. Has been for almost 5 years, and I know for sure that in boot camp, you don't have free time. If you do, it is because you are sneaking it in. He may get some free time towards the end, but not right away. Just wait and give him a chance, he may be able to write. Tell your husband he made an excellent choice joining the marine corps. and good luck to the both of you!

My boyfriend left for marine bootcamp exactly 2 weeks ago. I got a typed letter stating he arrived safely and a list of things what not to send with his address on Wednesday. So it took about a week and a half to get his address. Thursday I didnt get any mail. Friday I got two actual letters from him. Then yesterday I got another letter. The letters will most likely be pretty short since they dont have much time to write. In the first letter my bf wrote that he was suppossed to be sleeping but was sneaking a letter to me. My bf also gave me a list of things he was allowed to recieve in bootcamp.. I totally know how you feel its really tough! Good luck hun! Just email me if you have any questions or anything! Ive found that it helps to talk to other people going through the same thing. mmh2489@yahoo.com

The Drill Instructors will eventually let them write a letter home after the first couple weeks. After awhile they will get some free time on Sunday. Most of that time is spent polishing boots and studying up on stuff. At that time he will get a chance to write just about every week as long as he gets his other tasks finished. But, it is really up to the drill instructors. There will be times he will not be able to write. That will mainly be in second phase during field training. Just give it time and a letter will come. After bootcamp he will have much more free time to write and call. There is more freedom during school of infantry or marine combat training. That will be after he graduates bootcamp. Best of luck to you and your husband!

Hey, I know exactly how you feel! My husband is in the marines and bootcamp sucked for me! But, times gonna fly and you're gonna see him graduate and be so proud! My husband is in infantry and he left for iraq 2 months ago...5 more to go and I'll have him back :)
Anyways, at first it takes a while to get any mail at all...but I promise it's coming! I think it took about 2 weeks and I got my first mail, but it was only a typed paper of information they made them send home...not too important. Then about a week later I got my first real letter. After that I got a letter every week...sometimes two. I always got mine on wednesday and that was because his platoon was only allowed to write on sundays. Hopefully your husband gets more time to write. I love the feeling of going to the mailbox and finding a letter! And, once again I run to the mailbox everyday hoping to find one!
Remember, send him lots of mail, I wrote my husband everyday and he said thats what kept him going. I also sent him some pictures. He will love getting mail! Unfortunatley, they do hold the mail and only give it out about once a week, but then he'll get lots of letters at one time :)
I want to say thank you...from one marine wife to another. What your husband is doing is so honorable. I know its hard...and its always going to be...but its worth it all. I love my man and I love being a marine wife...it comes with a pride that nobody else can ever feel.
I hope this helps :)

Relax - he's busy! It's not about you right now; they keep him busy 24/7. He misses you and the best thing you can do is NOT nag him for not writing. Once you get his address, then write him everyday - he'll need the mail to boost his spirits. DON'T send cookies or other crapola, just letters. Give him a few more days, ok? You'll be very proud of him, so this is the beginning of this kind of life - waiting as a military wife.

my husbands letters were 10 days off of when they said there were written.
meaning if he wrote them on the 10th i didnt even recieve it until the 20th.
plus, when they do get free time, which is not alot, they spend it cleaning their racks, and doing things that need to be done then and there in boot camp.

reading letters was a first priority, writing them wasnt.

They made us write home after two weeks. gave us 15 minutes for this. Bootcamp is a very fast paced training without a lot of free time. He will be learning general orders (to memory) and many other things. When you write to him, make it all the upbeat good stuff.
