The Mayans said so. And where are they now? 6 feet under. I wouldn't worry about the end of the world coming in 2012. There have been hundreds of predictions that the world would end much sooner. And so far, we are still alive. And BTW, Nostradamus did not predict that.
The real story:
The Mayan calendar ends on the year of 2012. Well, the calenders got to end some time or another, right? They couldn't have just kept on going forever. And we just inferred that we would die on the day that the calender ended. Baloney.

The Mayan long and short calenders end cycles simultaneously on December 21, 2012.. Some people take that to mean it will be the end of the world..
Either you believe the Mayans were able to prognosticate the end of the world down to the day or you believe it's simply the end of their two calendar cycles and the cycles will begin again on December 22, 2012.....

Nobody I'm aware of says that it is.
The Mayan calender ends in December of that year, which is supposed to have some meaning, but there are many theories as to what it actually portends.

Well, I think it's the Mayan calendar, not the Aztec. As far as I know, it's just the end of their calendar, and there's no specific end-times prophecy associated with it. Furthermore, those people used to throw kids into volcanoes to appease gods. Maybe you shouldn't put too much stock into anything they said.

Supermarket tabloids may say they know and that the signs are there, but no one can know for sure when the world will end or the 2nd coming will be.

some think nostrodamus predicts it but I don't believe in these interpretations as even a nuclear war would not totally destroy the earth and all it's life .
