First of all, let me congratulate you on becoming sober!:) Second, let me ask you if you have ever considered college. Do you know what kind of work you would like to do for the rest of your life? Perhaps you should talk to a vocational counselor and see what your options are. I don't know what your financial situation is, but I do know that there are various state and federal student aid programs that can help you attend college. Above all else, though, see about furthering your education. Unfortunately, nowadays it's very hard to find a well-paying job if you don't have a college degree. By the way, if you're 38, your life is probably just beginning. As a matter of fact, I have a friend who's 41 and is pursuing a master's degree to become a teacher of English as a second language. Also, my mom is 55 and attending nursing school. You're still very young, so go for what you want! Good luck!:)

You will need money to invest, but it's a lot cheaper than the average used car. You can get into your own business cleaning offices at night. You can start small and build your business and hire other people to work for you.
You will need at least $1500 to get started. You buy a franchise. There is a big difference between buying something and trying to sell yourself to the personnel department. When you're spending money, nobody's going to smell your underwear.
When you buy a franchise, it isn't you against the great unknown. You get support from people who know the business. Check the business opportunities classified ads in the Sunday paper and answer more than one ad to get a feel for what's available.

Truck driving -- if you stay sober, and don't have more than one DUI. Good money and benefits, easy entry, lots of jobs, recession-proof -- and you'll have far fewer annoying, gossipy, bullying co-workers than with most jobs!
