No for a couple of reasons.
1.) the lubricating system (splash type) relies on gravity to have the oil collect in the bottom of the engine. inverting the engine will cause improper lubrication and failure of bearings etc. Also is it possible to have oil leak into the combustion chamber and oil can leak out via the vent line.
2.) The carburetor also relies on gravity to feed gasoline to the carburetor. Proper level in the carburetor is maintained via a float and valve which if inverted will allow gas to free flow into the carburetor .

You take the blades out of the mower. You replace the blades with a cog (or gear, if you know what I mean). The gear part has to extend below the bottom of the shell. You mount the blade beside the mower on a rod that has a cog on it. The two gears are connected by a bicycle chain (which is why the gear no the mower has to extend below the shell.
The rotating blade part should be enclosed in a cast iron barrel. The fragments of a 16 pound bowling ball dropped in a blender are going to be dangerous as heck.

A 2cycle lawnmower Will respective to the engine work in all positions. However fuel delivery is a special consideration...
a 4cycle lawnmower with oil in the crankcase will not work in any positional extreme other than that which it is designed for...Vertical or horizontal .....The oil will get down behind the piston and cause the engine to stall or oil will find its way to the carburetor and will be pulled into the combustion chamber through the carb until the fuel is starved off....There ya go from the E.

Gas "drains" from the bottom of the tank. Remove the tank, flip over the motor and remount the tank. Not sure if making a blender out of a mower is wise. Make sure you use a container that will handle the shrapnel that is produced. Sounds too dangerous.

most off the shelf lawnmowers will not work upside down as the carburetors are gravity fed. You would need a fuel injected motor to get it to work upside down-why would you want to anyway? What kind of drink are you mixing that calls for a blended bowling ball?

No it wont work, you would need to turn the carburettor over and either turn the tank over or fit a fuel pump and then the oil system will starve the blade end bearing of oil and it will sieze
Why not use an electric mower, then it would just be the blade coming undone and flying off and killing copious numbers of your friends and perhaps yourself that would present problems.

Disconnect the spark plug. Turn the mower on it's SIDE, not upside down. Remove the blade and turn the mower back upright. Sharpen the blade, the replace. Turning the mower upside down is not recommended. It could cause the gas to spill out. This could be a fire hazard when you restart the lawn mower.
