I have lived there all my life. Indigenous foods to CA? No-but there are indigenous people to California. They were actually Mexican before California became California. Which is why mexican and southwestern cooking is popular.

it don't know if it is totally indigenous to california, but broccoli. Brought to American by the italians in 1806. And made popular by an itialian family in San Jose, California...Greenfield, about an hours drive south of SJ is the broccoli capital of the world.

Ingredients

Bread of any type
Butter, for spread on toast
Spoonful of a California avacado
Pinch of salt
Instructions

Toast bread, med
Spread butter over bread
Scoop out a spoonful of avocado, spread over bread
Add a pinch of salt for taste

Ingredients

2 California avocados, seeded and peeled
8 slices prosciutto or smoked salmon
Fresh lemon or lime

Instructions

Cut each avocado into 8 slices.
Diagonally wrap each with a prosciutto or salmon slice.
Arrange wraps on serving platter, garnish with lemon or lime and serve.

When I think of California foods, I think of fresh produce and nuts.

California oranges and avocados
California almonds and walnuts
Ice burg lettuce, cantaloupe, apricots in northern California.
Tomatoes and strawberries

How could I forget plums/prunes grapes and raisins
Recipe. Peal, cut or shell and/or eat as is.... my favorite kinda food.
