What makes you think that you can speak for the Founding Fathers?

Whenever someone asks a question about things such as teaching creationism in school and gay marriage, there always seems to be someone that says "The founding fathers of America would not approve of it", "If the founding fathers knew that creationism was not being taught in school, they would be very angry", etc...

I know that many of the founders of the Constitution were Christian, but what makes you think that you can speak for them?

FOUNDING FATHERS- ???
most, if not all politicians have always been in it for themselves...just look at their earnings and retirement plans, and how they have the power to vote themselvces raises...( I have no reason to doubt that the founding fathers were any different. (Washinton and Jefferson owned slaves...Jefferson, the main author of the human Freedom and equality concept wouldn't free his slaves, because he owed too much money on fine imports from Europe...his clothing, wines, furnishings...he was in debt to his eyeballs...)
Founding father? they aren't my father, but I'm sure there were many mulattoes that couldn't say the same thing.

Probably because of the voluminous historical record - it is pretty easy to determine what they might have thought.

For example - I can say without equivocation - that if the Founding Fathers had their way only white male property owners could vote for President; and even then only indirectly through a slate of electors.

If I am an ambassador I would be speaking for
someone else.Christians are ambassadors of
Jesus Christ. They should only speak what is
written in the word of God.All else would just
be an opinion.

It's much better to let them speak for themselves.

Oh, George!! Yes, you. President Washington...the Father of our Country. Care to say a few words?

President George Washington, September 17th, 1796 "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible"

His Prayer At Valley Forge "Almighty and eternal Lord God, the great Creator of heaven and earth, and the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; look down from heaven in pity and compassion upon me Thy servant, who humbly prostrates myself before Thee."

"Bless O Lord the whole race of mankind, and let the world be filled with the knowledge of Thee and Thy Son, Jesus. "Of all dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens."

"To the distinguished character of a Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of a Christian."

I don't speak for them.
I do study their writings and letters.
I know how they felt about government, God and religion because they wrote about them.
