Well, I will try to answer your question without being rude like some of the others who responded. There's no reason to be so nasty even though I do agree that it's best that you have your dog spayed.
You didn't mention how long the puppies lived after being born. It could be any number of reasons why they died, and without having necropsies done, the same as an autopsy, on them, there's no way to be 100% sure of of their cause of death.
Plese take mom and the remaining two pupies to the vet for a thorough examination. After she's done nursing the remaining puppies, I do hope that you will make an appointment to have her spayed. Twelve puppies is a lot for any dog to have and I would hate to see you put her though the stress of having puppies again.
Good luck with the remaining two and I'm sorry for your loss.

FIRST OF ALL DO NOT LISTEN TO THE RUDE INCONSIDERATE PEOPLE ON HERE ABOUT YOU BEING A BACK YARD BREEDER AS THE QUESTION DOES NOT MENTION ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE SITUATION WITH THE PUPS
And secondly i have been breeding Shih Tzu's for over 5 yrs and i have only lost 1 litter due to vet malpractice
The pups may have gotten sick with an infection that the mum could have picked up,they may have been preemies and not ready for the world,or mum may not have been producing enough milk
whatever the case it is still sad that so many of them passed away
Keep a close eye on the survivors and don't listen to those who prefer to shoot off at the mouth before getting all of the information

There are a few reasons WHY this happened. Because the owner didn't educate his/herself and prevent this from happening. The owner didn't get the proper vet care for the momma, and continues to fail to take the mom & pups to a vet. Because the owner didn't think of anything but $$$. Or maybe aobut "how cuuuuute" it would be to have puppies, and not how important it is to breed RESPONSIBLY.

Kinda need to add more information that that.. Did they died the same day? They were born dead? They did something specific before they died? There are many reasons why puppies could die.. Need more help..
I would guess an e-coli infection, herpes... something the pups were exposed to as they were born.. You can have the pups tested and have mom tested.. You will want those pups to see the vet to make sure that they are fine.

That is one of the saddest things I have heard lately. Shame on you for not taking care of your dog and learning about breeding before you put all that death on YOUR hands. I hope you are happy. And I see in your next question you are wanting to know when to breed her again?
May you get what you deserve for doing this to a helpless animal.
I am disgusted.

Maybe because you are inexperience and wasn't there when she had them to remove the pups so she wouldn't step on them when the next one was born. This is very common.Like i said before you shouldn't be breeding dogs.

Infection is the first thought that come to my mind. Did you have her tested for any thing before she got pregnant?? I bet your didn't. Get the remaining pups to the vets to check to se if they will even make it then have mom checked too. If she has an infection than you can never breed her again, ever!
You did a very wrong thing breeding her before you have her health cleared.
Breeding is a ot more than putting 2 dogs together.

Did she have prenatal veterinary supervision while she was pregnant? She could have been malnourished. Did she get vitamins? Did your vet do any ultrasounds to check on the pups while they were still developing?

12 is a high number for one body to handle and lack of moms milk could be the reason.
see a vet to make sure survivors are fine now.
