if i put it on a wood surface with nothing around it and it gets pretty darn hot, should i be worried? it seems like it has good ventalation.

It's completely normal, if it gets hot. PS3 has a built-in heat protection - it'll turn itself automatically if it gets too hot. Don't worry, man, sound like you've found a nice spot for it.

I wouldn't worry. Mine can get pretty hot too at times but I've read on multiple forums that people have left theirs on for weeks at a time with no negative consequences. If there's good ventilation around it you'll be ok.

Don't worry, and DON'T buy an intercooler. Intercoolers void your warranty and mess up the PS3's built in cooling system.

The PS3 has a very low failure rate of .2%, (in comparison to the xbox 360's 33% failure rate) don't worry, it wont overheat.

Wont overheat, it will warn you if it gets too hot, which wont happen. ^_^
