In terms of contributions to humanity, charity, individual achievements, reaching ones potential, morality, ethics, etc, is there really any area of life that one side out does the other? Both camps seem to have done equally impressive things, and there seem to be equally excellent people on both sides.

Upon close examination, all the so called religious quandaries in society are really nothing more than man-made problems, which can (and ultimately must) be solved by men and women anyway. Even the theists admit that their god ain't intervening in our affairs.

So don't we have to ask the question...

If atheists can keep pace with the best that theist have to offer, what do we need organized religion for?

We've PROVEN that humans at least have the potential to "do it all" without religion.

Even if we allow for the requisite "life after death" aspect that theists demand, those beliefs have little bearing on the here and now, and can entertained on an individual basis anyway.

Joe,

Consider this... a man who makes a million also pays (in theory) 400,000 in taxes, which go to making society a better place. That man might also employ many people, who have jobs because of his effort. It's never as simple as it looks.

Should we keep organized religion?

No, I don't think so.

People should find their own beleifs, and if a group of people share the same beleifs, they should assemble.

But on the terms that only if they share the exact same beleifs.

This keeps them from haveing close to the same beleifs and starting a large group that has too much influence over things that should not be in the "hands of god".

Things such as government, public schools, etc.

Public schools teach evolution because it leaves room for theism, while the Bible preaches that there is only one way.

In this path of evolution, you can make your own decisions.

If you wish to not accept evolution, and pray and worship god, then by all means go ahead.

But organised religon has too much influence.

Now, are atheists better than theists because they look for proof instead of taking things on faith?

No.

I beleive it to be more of a lifestyle choice, like how you comb your hair. This of course is an exaggerated example, but I think it fits.

Different people react to different things, like you and I would react differently to an alien invasion.

Someone might surrender, someone might commit suicide, someone might hide underground looking for a weakness, and some might fight them head on.

Some options look less strategic to others.

It's the same factor, I beleive.

I don't know exactly where I'm going with this, but I know I want it to end in peace.

Think about it.

In theory your right, an atheist can be just as kind and giving to humanity as any theist.

But in theory, communism is also right.

I know several Atheists and Theists that give their money and energy to noble causes, but I will tell you it is the deeply religious theists that I know that consistently give a greater portion of their income and time than anyone else.

It is a tough question but you tell me which is better.

A man that made a billion dollars this year and gave a million to charity.

Or a person that made $100,000 and gave $15,000.

one gave 1% the other 15%, but the 1% was much more.

No there is no proof.

Humanity, while not perfect, works best when we rely on each other and organized religion is not needed to do that.
