Okay well i guess this could be considered as a surprise while my house was under construction......
This so called fire place is a total disaster and can seem to find a solution to cover it up?
Anyone have any suggestions, ideas, for this living room which I want it to have a contemporary feel to it.
Thanks.

The craftmanship in that room is gorgeous. Do not cover that up. If you don't like the fireplace and can't or won't use it, once the room is finished and all the detail work is complete, clean and paint the inside of the fireplace as you do the rest of the room, and place a large plant in the fireplace hole.

Why not make it a shelf add more wood moulding (if it is wood) to meet out wards and frame it then put your T.V on top and some other stuff on the bottom great storage place. But if you don't them you probably can take the frame off smashing or blasing ( kiding)
So your going to take off the top molding too! SOOO Sad BUt it is really nice so Stylishly Euopean

Don't cover it up, remove it. If it's not original, it shouldn't be too difficult to remove. Look for screws/nails holding it in place and remove it piece by piece.

I think it's lovely. Why would you cover it up? Just paint it to match and use it as shelf space or display for decorations.

OMG! It's beautiful! Are you crazy??
Seriously, this is a gem...don't cover it up, I would just plaster it so it looks like limestone.
