The three inch should have a little bit more shot, and a little more powder to get the extra shot going to the same speed. Some manufacturers have their steel shot in 3" shells in order to get the extra power on the steel shot that would be lost in comparison to using denser lead shot.

For ducks, the best thing to do is use 3" shells, unless, such as in your case, you're taking shots you know you can make easily. Then it'd be alright to use the shorter shell and a throw a tight group.

The difference is the weight of the shot and how much gun powder is used. 2 3/4 will be alot easier on the shoulder. The 3 inch will have a harder hit cuz its heavier for better knock down power. Range wise I would think they are the same. So for ducks I would use the 2 3/4.

The range issue might be 3-5 yards. Ts just gonna have a littel more umph a little farther out. Id use a #4 3'' because i dont shoot over about 25-30 yards anyway, so that shell would be fine.

sure you ought to use any 3 inch shell on your 500 merely make effective that throughout the experience that your employing a good choke that your no longer employing steel shot. A magnum shell merely has a bigger value (longer brass) as they say down right here in Kentucky.

the difference is the length of the shell a 3 inch shell is 3 inchs, a 2 3/4 inch shell is 2 3/4 inches long, you want to check which one your shotgun actually uses.
