I am not really into this aspect of religion so I might be way off.

If Adam and Eve were the first two people on earth, doesn't that mean everyone is inbred? How can two persons have enough children to populate the earth to 6, 000, 000, 000?

I find the idea of Adam and Eve so odd. Evolution seems more likely IMO.

6 billion from 2 isn't all that uncommon. this happens all the time in bacteria cultures. however, the ore complex an organism is, the more there needs to be to form the 'first generation'; to have enough genetic diversity. 6 billion people from 2 humans is not possible. Just a dozen generations of inbreeding causes severe mental and physical retardation.

Inbred is bad because of inherited illnesses, and birth defects. If you have ever filled out a health insurance application you know it asks about family history of cancer, heart problems, etc.

This is because if someone in a family has a damaged gene from illness, drugs, radiation, etc., and two of that person's offspring were to mate, that would increase the likelihood that that genetic problem would cause problems.

Adam and Eve, however would have been created with a pure gene pool, therefore, inter-breeding would not have been a problem for the first few generations (no family history of illness).

After a few generations, however, God did forbid marriage (and sex) with close relations.

As for the current population coming from only two people, there is plenty of time from Adam and Eve until now, even with just a moderate reproduction rate with each generation.

Also, you have the same problems with evolution.

If humans are a result of accidental genetic mutations, what are the odds that animals would mutate exactly the same in various places? The "accidents" would have to happen so that humans, that were genetically compatible with other humans, would be formed in each location. Otherwise, even evolution claims that all humans came from the same "parents"!

Even the theory of evolution claims we have "common ancestors"!

The children of Adam and Eve populated the earth until the flood, then the children of Noah re-populated it (about 4500 ago).

The earth was much different before the flood, very healthy, and people lived for up to 969 years.

Even after the flood for several hundred years the conditions were still quite good, and so people lived longer and could have more children (lets say 50 in 200 years).

As for inbreeding, the gene pool was pure back then (and there was no one else to marry.

Only some time after the flood did God make marring a close relative a sin.

Well, let's examine this. Say Adam and Eve lived 6000 years ago. Let's assume an annual population growth rate of 3.46% (a little high, but that's the annual rate of growth right now for Yemen, so it's possible).

Let N0 = population size at time 0 (i.e., 6000 years ago)
Nt = population size at time t (now, 6000 years later)
r = the annual rate of growth. i.e., 3.46% or 0.0346
t = the number of years (i.e., 6000)

To calculate the population size at time t, use the formula:

Nt = N0*exp rt

If you plug in the numbers, you will find that if Adam and Eve and all their descendants were able to multiply at this rate for 6000 years, they would number 2.88*10^90, which is a number greater than the number of atoms in the known universe.

So yeah, it's possible. That doesn't mean I believe it.

If they weren't inbred on the Adam and Eve watch it happened on the Noah end of things. It does seem unlikely.

However, evolution and creation aren't necessarily the only explanations.

It gets even goofier when you recall that, according to the story, the angry sky daddy went on to wipe out everything on the planet except for a drunkard and his family, who then had to set about repopulating the planet AGAIN! Granted, they didn't start from the same tiny gene wading pool that was first postulated, but c'mon...

It's a creation myth, most every religion has one. Abrahamic religions are lucky, since they have two to pick from in the very same book! (For those of you who haven't actually read the *****, Genesis contains two different versions of their creation myth. Bad writing AND bad editing!)

Granted, science might not know everything about the origins of mankind, but what science does know makes a lot more sense than what any religion puts forth as an explanation...

The short version of this answer? It's not possible!

Actually, if you go 100% by the Bible, we're all double inbred. First the Adam and Eve bit, and then Noah's family. Guess the Christian God likes hot inbred action....

In Genesis, the two sons of Adam and Eve were Cain and Able, when Cain killed his brother God sent him into the land of Nod where he took a wife. The people of Nod were created by God after Adam and Eve to populate the earth.

Hey T.J.,
Get yourself a couple of rabbits, call one Bucky and the other Doey. Put them together in your protected backyard, feed & water them well, and see how many rabbits you have in only three years. Then you'll likely understand how the earth got so many people from only two.
