It depends on the type of lift. A small lift with shackles and spacers is cheaper to install than a larger lift with drop brackets and replacement springs.

Body lift are more money than a suspension lift, due to the amount of work. For body lifts, you have to unbolt to the entire body from the frame and then any work on the fuel, brake, vaccum lines, the shifter linkages, etc. When doing a suspension lift the amount of work depends completely on the height of the lift. A short one requires alot less lift.

But TTB trucks(like your 84) are more work than a solid axle truck(like one of the other answerers 78, and 79).

If you have the instructions, the tools and any mechanical experience, do it yourself. I did several on both my vehicles, and both my boys trucks. Some were so easy it was scary, others where a real pain. But we got em all done. Most 4x4 shops around here get mad if you bring your parts for them to install ( they make a nice profit on their parts) but will charge you anywhere from $200 to as high as $400 to install them. Fords are easy by the way. I did my '78 short bed F150 and my sons '79 stepside F150 over the weekend.
