The wages of sin is death...
This is why God had to take on human form and die.
(btw, you do NOT have an "immortal soul"...if you already had eternal life, why would the gift of God be eternal life? That simply doesn't make sense.)
Jesus went down into hell (the grave) and released those who had died looking forward to the fulfillment of God's promise...He holds the keys to death and to hell.

According to Jesus and his Father, a perfect sense of Justice must be maintained. A perfect man, Adam, fell from perfection before he had a family. He then passed on his short comings to all his descendants.
The human race had to then be bought back from the sin of Adam. This could only be done with another perfect human life willing to offer up all his potential for both perfection and child procreation. To prove Satan a liar once again by living his entire human life without sin.
No other human could do this as at least one parent could not be human or imperfect. Only Jesus with God as his Father could.
As for what he did in hell, since it is only the grave according to the Bible, he slept. The Bible clearly shows the condition of the dead as one of zero activity, no thoughts or deeds or memories. (Ps. 146:4; Eccles. 9:5,10) So he stayed there for 3 days in the grave until his Father raised him from the dead.
Now this has been done before by Jesus. What is truly miraculous and important for us today is what happened afterwards. When he was returned to heaven, God put back every memory and increased his power and authority Jesus had before he came to earth. This shows how possible it is for God to do the same thing for humans, long, long dead to be resurrected.

The bible was written through prophecy.. meaning through the reading of future events and introduced into humanity from the past... All the names have been changed, so the people don't recognize the good guys or the bad guys... the bible is compliled with only partial truth... what makes up the difference is the plans to destroy these people... the man who is called Jesus was actually born in the 1970's the plans according to the bible is to have him murdered before he can tell the world the truth... If is does die it's certain that it's at the hands of the christians.. that is why the christians are called the hypocrites... for they count on his death for salvation not the messages he can deliver if he don't die...

Because of sin, all people have to die. Death is the penalty of sin. To save us from the penalty of sin, God became a sinless human being (Jesus) to die in our place.
The idea that Jesus descended into hell comes from First Peter 3:18-20: "...he went and preached to the spirits in prison". The word "prison" here is understood as hell.

Jesus had to die as a sacrifice for our sins. Back in the old days they used to sacrifice (kill) animals for forgiveness of sins. But then Jesus was sent to sacrifice himself, a human so that we would have forgiveness through him and if we do let him into our life (heart) we will eternal life in heaven with him. If not we will go to hell and burn forever. The Bible says it is complete desolation there and misery so don't let no one tell you it's fun down there cause the Bible says different and The Bible is truth. So if you haven't yet, ask him to forgive you of your sins and into your heart and you will have a complete peace in your heart. And it will be the smartest and wisest decision you will ever make in your life. May God Bless you. And for your second question Jesus is in Heaven.

He died for our sins so that we might have a life with God in heaven. His sacrificial death atoned for the sins of mankind.
The frequent New Testament affirmations that Jesus was "raised from the dead" presuppose that the crucified one sojourned in the realm of the dead prior to his resurrection. This was the first meaning given in the apostolic preaching to Christ's descent into hell: that Jesus, like all men, experienced death and in his soul joined the others in the realm of the dead. But he descended there as Savior, proclaiming the Good News to the spirits imprisoned there.

Ok half of these people don't know their bible. Here is the answer...
In the old testament God required man to offer up a sacrifice to him every so often because of man's sin. It was a sacrafice because it was the best sheep or goat or their herd, which was hard to kill on an altar because it would either fetch a great price at market or be a really good breeder. it had to be spotless and not sickly. strongest of the herd.
In the new Testament God decided to come down and end this by becoming flesh but WITHOUT sin. without spot. yes he was in human form/flesh BUT since he was God he was perfect. So by him taking that sacrifice to new level and offering himself and conquering evil it ended for us having to kill a lamb at an altar every few months.
the SECOND part of your question:
Yes Jesus did go to hell while he was dead to take the keys back from Satan. the keys to death, hell and the grave. So now he has power over it. not satan. the verse escapes me at the moment. but if u look it up in a concordance you can find it.

I'm winging this here, but I think I'm right.
Jesus had to die to save us from our sins. He took them to hell for us and left them their. I thank that part is symbolic.
The reason he had to do this was easy, his Father, or God didn't have a lot of time left for us, he was getting tired of us always doing the wrong things and was about to end the earth, but then got a idea. He would give us one more chance and send his son to us to see if he could change us from our old ways to his way of thinking and doing things right.
If you read the older books in the bible you would find, God's tract record with us wasn't good, or was that we weren't getting it right, anyway he use to burn people for sin, he was a God, yes and a hard one too, but Jesus was kind of different. All he ask from us was the except him into our hearts, ask him into our liefs and to believe in and on him and his words he left for us with his 12 men.
That's the way I got the story from My Father years ago. It may not be per word, but my Dad had a way of telling a story that draw you in tell it was over, then he would ask a question, like, " so do you want to have Jesus or Hell " You got the story and the way to do it, so make a choice, heaven or hell?

Jesus died because he taught a religion to everyone that makes no sense. the only smart people at the time decided to kill him before he made it a popular religion because it united the stupid. i guess they were too late. now some intelligent people still survive after masses of burning, cruxifiction, and conversions. he didnt descend to hell, he descended to summerland and thought it was hell because it is what you make of it
