Define yourself. What others think about you is not your business.
Look into yourself and correct misconceptions. "I don't dress thuggish, I speak correct english, and I make good grades and run track for my school". Does that mean that if you did those things, that you would not be due basic respect, providing that your character is the same?
Most people unfortunately respond to symbols rather than substance. The judge a book by its cover. Worse, more often than not, that judgment is conditioned externally. Resist that conditioning. Master yourself. No one else has that right or could do it better. Besides, masterring their own selves should be more than enough work to keep them busy.
Connotations and description of Humans as "black or white" are arbitrary and not scientific. They make it up as they go along. The descriptions are primitive socio-economic oppressive tools rooted in mental illnesss. It is a disease that has spread to even its victims who perpetuate the same to the closest of kin.
So-called 'blacks" have never been the majority recipients of social welfare programs in the USA. That is a response to symbology used in the media. In all fairness to the media there have been a few stories to support the truth, but the majority of them have been to support the misconception. Say something loud enough many times and lazy-thinkers will believe it. Most people are influenced by symbology, not reason.
Somehow you must find a way to rise above the immaturity, insecurity, and mental illness of others. The Content of your character is what matters most. Reason guided by compassion and firm resolve to understand the truth and act accordingly. The responsibility of the Free Man is to be responsible in such a way that gaurantees not only his Liberty but also the Liberty of others members of the Human Family.
I have provided a few links that might help your understanding. You are in a large insane asylum, humouring mental patients while trying not to be one yourself. Lead by example. Follow the Golden Rule. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Seek to be truthful to YOURSELF.

Unfortunately we live in a screwed up world. The whole race issue is one I will never understand. I personally have always had a great rapport with people of all races. There are good and bad in all races, I have many very good friends that are black and have been around black people all of my life. I had a couple of bad things happen to me that did involve black men, I was carjacked by 4 guys with guns. I also was pushed to the ground and had my purse stolen in front of my son who was only six at the time. Those things were very traumatizing to me and my son too. Honestly after those things happened I can say I was a little skiddish. But I don't let those 2 incidents cloud my mind. There are so many people in the world that put labels or stereotypes on people because of the color of our skin, it really is sad. I'm sorry you have to go thru the things you do in your city. Not that it should make a difference, but I guess with your height and build, you could be intimidating to some people. I just say this, if people want to be so ignorant, there really isn't anything we can do to change them. Don't let ignorance sour you, not everyone is so biased. You shouldn't have to get used to being followed in a store, that is total CRAP!!!!!! Just continue being who you are and try to look beyond the idiots, sometimes it's hard, but that's what makes you the "BIGGER" and "BETTER" person.

Right or wrong, you answered yourself by the way you asked your question "I dont dress thuggish, I speak correct english..." noting that many blacks men do dress like and act like thugs and do not speak properly. You my friend are the unfortunate victim of the dark shadow of many who do not act anything like decent members of society. I doubt that you glorify gang membership or harrass kids who pay attention in school instead of selling drugs but that image has been engraved in the minds of many because it happens so often.
I am sorry you have to endure people who do not know you personally and therefore are taken by surprise that you like many other blacks are not like those other fools. It will get better as people get to know that you are a nice and upstanding young man.
It is a lot like if you came from a family known for bad behavior, no matter how well behaved you are, their reputation proceeds you until enough people find out that related or not, you are NOT them.

I am 4 ft 9 in and middle aged... I would be scared to death to get into an elevator with a WHITE guy who was 6ft 5in with a very athletic build.... Granted, some people are nervous BECAUSE you are big AND because you are black, but I would bet that most people have the fear because you are BIG...... and yes I have to admit that there are still some prejudice people who have a bug up their BUTTS and can't get out of the 60's with their thinking... and I am SORRY for those people and for the way they treat people. The unfortunate thing is that ALL people are not as liberal or intelligent to accept EVERYONE as their equal... stereotypes unfortunately still exist and I'm NOT really sure how to get rid of them except to tell you to just be yourself, be as tolerant of THEM as you can and show them that you are a sweetheart rather then a big bear....

Dude, it's a fact of life being a black man. I used to give a damn about people being scared of me, but now I just have fun with it. You get on a bus and see em' looking at you, give it some time, then when you've established they're looking at you because you're black say ,"Boo, *****!" Watch em' turn around and not look at you once. I do dress the "thug" look ( but I'm definitely not one), and whenever I see white folks, I either put the hoody over my eyes, or bring the Fitted down real low, and clench my jaws, it's funny man, they part like the Red Sea. I'm not saying you've got to be like that with everybody, but don't let it bother you so much. You shouldn't have to whistle and sing dixie for anybody to like you, and if they don't that's their prob not yours. I do have some white people I know, and it's not always that they are being racist, they are just being curious because all they see of us is the Rapper, the Athlete, the stud that has to sleep with everything he sees, the thug, and when you don't fit squarely in one or all of those categories they get inquisitive. But that food stamps thing was plain racist, unless you knew the guy, in no way was that appropriate. That "joke" was real, it's just now it's politically incorrect to say so directly, but with racial commentary like Dave chappelle and Carlos Mencia being so popular, people feel they can get away with racist stuff as long as they frame it in the context of being a joke. Stay strong, and f@#$ whoever don't like it.

Some people still have an old-fashioned way of thinking, that whites are the superior race, and that everyone else is below them.
Its' a terrible thing thats' been introduced to our society, but its' something that's not entirely uncommon.
For the people that look down on you, or act as though you're going to do something bad, because of your race, or are discrimative towards you because of it, ignore them because they are the ones that look foolish and stuck in the past.
Not everyone (or at least not all white people) treat other races as though they are below them. I accept all people, no matter the religion/race/sex, because I believe everyone deserves to be treated equally & fairly.
Just hold your head up and ignore the idiots and live your life the way you've been going about it.

She is probably food possessive and possessive with her belongings. she sounds extra sweet though. Take your time working with her training dont push her to far to show her your boss it'll take her time to adjust to a new home, new people, and new animal friends. Try different feeding techniques with her hand feeding if she allows it hand feed her and also your dachshund at the same time to show her they both get the food equally. Also you could feed them in separate rooms to avoid the problem and advise people and children when your dogs eat food, treats, bones, or have toys to leave them be and wait to pet them till they are finished. I wish I had more tips for you but Good luck with your new addition and its great that you adopted.

I know exactly how you feel. I had to explain myself to people who said the same $h!t to me in a store. I pulled out my wallet and shut them up, plus I outsmarted them. Just stay the way you are and overcome the ignorance. I remember a question like this, well refer to that question and my answer and you will be fine. Some people treat us differently because of past experiences, generations, and the media of course. I mean, what makes black people inferior to others anyway? What did we do to deserve this treatment? I hope that things improve.
