ok it is an abomination right ?

so when others get married do they promise
never to trim their beards
never to eat shellfish
never to wear mixed clothes
never to sit near a menstrating woman
never to get a tattoo
never to wear clothes of the opposite sex ( no shirts and slacks ladies )

I am just wondering if the preacher goes through these things before someone gets married ...
do they sign something along these lines ?

Okay to try and understand Christian thought you must realize that was Old Testament Law known as the law of Moses. The new testament says Jesus Nailed the law to the cross and did away with it and established a new covenant,so the beards and other things Jesus never re established. The New testament. Romans talks about men desiring one another and women desiring one another and it goes against nature.

Jesus reinstated most laws given by Moses but not all. It is now okay to eat and drink whatever without breaking the law. He did not command to keep the sabbath holy either and he rose on the first day, Sunday so the first Christians declared that day the Lord's day.

Romans is the only place that mentions men with men that I can remember right off hand and do not remember the chapter and verse, but to the Christian that is enough to deny same sex marriages.

However in states that have legal same sex marriages some churches do allow them to be married and there is always pagan ministers like myself who will do it freely, willingly, gladly, but it is not legal in my state so I offer Affirmation of love ceremonies.

Christian churches may deny them this, but pagans do not.

Honestly, I think marriage and wedding should be for woman and man who are in love and have the commitment to start a family. I am not against homosexuals, I respect the fact they love each other, but I think there is a little bit of "show off", exhibition and the intention to shock everyone. I don't think it is necessary to have two men holding hands in front of a priest, one of them dressed like a bride, to show everybody they love each other. That's so childish. However, I think they should legalize their union and have all the rights as any other married couple. I am against the show they like to promote.

I don't agree with the idea of homosexuals having children either. Although they can be a couple and have all the rights as any married person, I don't think they are exactly a good model to raise a child. A child needs a mother and a father and any other discrepancy is disfunctional. Can you imagine the child in school? What about adolescense? I just don't think it is right... sorry to be honest!

Peace!

Jesus brought a new covenant by which we no longer need to observe the ritualistic aspects of following God (sacrifice, cleanliness etc). Through him all things became clean to eat (you can read about it in the New Testament). These things used to be Law but were not sinful in themselves, only signs of disobedience to the Law. It is not wrong for a woman to wear trousers any more than it was wrong for a man of Jesus' time to wear a long robe. It is dressing to 'look like' a man or a woman that is distasteful to God. Many people with tattoos have come to know Christ and He accepts them but once knowing Christ they will get no more tattoos. What never changes is God's definition of sin. Homosexuality is sin regardless of how acceptable it is in modern society. God's word is fixed in Heaven and cannot change. Sin is never acceptable in God's eyes and He makes no excuses for it. At the same time lies and deceptions, idolatory, hatred, cursing, magic, rebellion, slander, gossip, and immorality also have no place in Christ's church so what is all this emphasis on homosexuality for anyway. Sin is only forgiven when repented of and has no place in Christ's church. As Paul said, the non believer even encourages men in such practices. The amazing thing is that no matter what the sin or how detestable, God loves the sinner and the invitation to accept Christ is open to all. He will accept anyone who truly repents which is not always about being sorry but about not doing things in obedience to Christ. Many heterosexuals choose not to live immorally sexual lives. Homosexuals can do the same. "The man without the Spirit cannot accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned"

I can only answer this question from a point of view about which I can speak with authority - and that's Catholic Church teaching. And before I type more or you read more, I am also a homosexual!

In the Catholic Tradition matrimony (marriage) is defined as the union of a man and a woman - therefore it's not a question of political incorrectness or being outdated, anything other than the union of a man and woman is not and cannot be called matrimony (marriage) and within the sacraments of the Church only marriage relates to the union of two people - therefore, basic Aristotelean logic states that two people of the same sex can not be united in a Catholic Church in a sacramental sense.

Nothing to do with Leviticus - sorry!

All those things that you have listed except for the wearing of clothes of the opposite sex are of the old testament. That one you may want to research a little because men didn't wear shirts and slacks then.

There are churches that will marry you even in states that do not recognize same sex marriages.

It seems to me that what you are asking is that all churches be forced to marry same sex partners and all minister's be forced regardless of conviction to marry you. It should and will not ever happen. You want to marry some one of the same sex? Your choice. You want to marry in a church? Your choice, find one who does it. I am an ordained minister, I believe this life style is a sin and I will have not part of it. My choice.

The Metropolitan Church is Christian and mostly gay. Many other churches, including the Unitarians and the Ethical Society, do hand-fasting for gay couples. You may not be able to be married in the eyes of the law, but you can still celebrate your relationship and make a publicly witnessed commitment to stick together through thick and thin, however you want to word it. For better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health 'til death do you part. The commitment is the important thing.

But we'll keep working to reform the marriage laws to get you the legal rights you deserve as well.

Pangel, I know you mean well, and that is why your kind are the worst in any society. I know this sounds harsh and I wish I could soften it some, but good people will flood the gates of hell as sure as the sinner.

The laws you mention are as many will tell you Jewish. There are verses in the New Testament that demonstrate that most of these are not applied to the gentile, but only to the ones he called out to be his people. That is again the Jews.

However, I do agree that if you do not believe in God or adhere to his teachings you should not marry in a Church at all.

Look if it bothers you so much why not form a religion that welcomes just about anything and leave Christians alone! It is quite pointless to babble about things that will obviously not change. Why would you want to call something holy under biblical perspective if the Bible clearly states that it is not? The Bible is against HOMOSEXUALITY %100, therefore, why on earth would an homosexual want to subject him/herself to the torture of trying to fit in with it, when obviously they both contradict each other. The foundations have already been set and unless there comes a prophet from God with a divine word that it should not be so, then it forever will be! People do not swear not to eat certain stuff when they are getting married because that has absolutely nothing to do with the bed of matrimony. "Therefore shall a man( Male) leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife(female)!" that is what the pledge is about and nothing more.

Ah well, here in the USA our 1st Amendment guarantees religious freedom. Churches are free to make their own interpretations and decisions.

If a church won't marry a gay couple, that is their right. But there should be no impedence to a gay couple's right to marry civilly or in an accepting church.

I know I won't be getting married in any church, if some unlucky woman comes along.

Thanks for the witty question!

The abomination part is debatable, but I dont think they run through a list. If somebody pays to use the church, they can do almost anything they want.( This differs from church to church, tho) Obviously there are limits. I'm sure having nude dancers in the church, for instance, would cause a problem.
