This is a hypothetical that goes out to everyone, regardless of whether or not you are religious or whatever religion you may be.
If you died and appeared before an angel and he gave you the two following options, which would you choose and why?
Oblivion--to be complete wiped out of existence. You will no longer be.
Judgment--to appear before God and be judged. This judgment will result in either an eternity in Heaven or eternity in Hell. We all know the difference. To clarify, Heaven is a place of pure joy and eternal happiness and love, where Hell is a place of eternal despair, loneliness, and torture--something far worse than nothingness.
This judgment is not based on your faith or religion, but what kind of person you are. If you are an overall good person who has done good in your life, then it will be Heaven. If you are a bad person who has committed much evil and are dishonest and selfish, then it will be Hell.
So which is it, and why?

Well, first off, being a Christian I know that option number one will never happen, That is not a choice. But just to entertain the idea I would have to ask, if you thought you lived a life in which overall you were a good person why would you want to even consider oblivion?...If you were a bad person I would ask again why would you want to pick oblivion when it seems you have done anything you wanted already, why would you want that to stop?...Being either I can't see why anyone would want to be totally lost forever. Now that leads to the other two choices, Heaven or hell...We know that Heaven is a place of peace, joy and happiness for all eternity while hell is a place of loneliness and torment, to me it's obvious which I would choose, Heaven. But another point is that when it's time you won't be asked by an angel which you prefer; the decision will have already been made "Before" you die, and 'being good' won't get you into Heaven. There's only one way to get to Heaven and it's been offered to the good as well as the bad. That way is Jesus Christ, you have to ask Him into your life, you have to let Him be your Lord and Savior, you have to admit you're a sinner and repent. Then, the choice will have been made.

Oblivion.
I /probably/ wouldn't like hell to much, and heaven would be hell just by knowing that hell existed. I'd rather not exist at all than know there are people suffering for all eternity. I don't see how anyone could.

I would choose judgment, because whether your scenario allows it or not, my judgment has already been covered by the death of one who paid for all my shortcomings (sins) so that I can stand before God and be called perfect in his sight.
Otherwise, no one could stand before God and be judged good enough by God's standards.
That's the whole point of Christ.
Ok-- I'm braced for all those downward pointing digits..

Oblivion.
I am living my life as if it is the only life I shall ever have and to not choose oblivion would be hypocritical.
And I don't want to live forever.

I cannot let go of my own opinion; and that is that God is NOT black and white, and allows for shades of gray. I'll take the judgment, at least I'll get to speak my mind.

Well if this theoretical God thinks it is alright to torture souls forever based on his opinions of their behavior, I think I'd pass the test.

I'd love to avoid oblivion.
Unfortunately, wanting something to be true doesn't make it so. I really hope people like you come to understand this simple concept.
