the quality of reps is more important than the quantity. to effective stimulate the abdominal muscles focus on inhaling and exhaling forcefully for each rep. basically you are trying to flex them as hard as possible throughout the entire movement. in terms of which exercises to use, a variety is always best however exercises that utilized the entire range of motion of a muscle are always superior than those that do not.

a good ab routine should have 2-3 different exercise and perform 15-25 reps of each for several sets. ab training should only take 10-15 minutes to complete and need only be performed 3x a week.

start out with 20. do crunches, sit-ups, v-ups, jackknife sit-ups. work your way up to 50/day, then after that go up to 100. just keep working yourself to go higher. but when you start off, do it every other day. so your muscle can grow. it cant grow or get bigger if you do it everyday. don't forget cardio because muscle on your abs wont show until you get rid of a layer of fat on your stomach (if you even have one).

good luck!!

If you are in school and young, there is no reason you can not do at least 50 now, and 100 very soon.
