My husband and I just built a large five bedroom/four bathroom house on the outskirts of Boston. This is our first house together after living in a condominium-complex in downtown Boston. I am just clueless with what to do for colors of rooms, appliances, furniture, etc! Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Also, I am pregnant with a baby due in early April, so any tips for a nursery? Thanks!

Yes, we built our house large just to have room for more kids, as we would love at least two others (not including our baby we are expecting) Also, both of our families wanted a center for family gatherings, and no one could house everyone so we will easily be able to host family get togethers, etc.

Do every room as a theme, such as Africa, Old- England, Downtown, The Sea, The Ocean, The Library, The Fifties, etc.

Make all your materials environmentally friendly, go-green, conserve, etc.

Buy from goodwills, thrifts, yard sales, flea markets, etc., to reuse already made items.

And for your babies nursary which will likely be redone when they grow up, you should do as an outdoor theme with birds, animals, trees, etc.

Good luck.

look through magazines and just do quick instant thoughts......love it, hate it, etc. soon you will notice a pattern developing of things you like and don't like. Don't waste time picking out colors for your walls until you are ready to decorate each room. It is much easier to pick the paint to match the bedding for example than the other way around. So look for drapes, curtains, rugs......then the paint color. You also don't have to "do" each room this year. You could cover the basics, and then do a room each year. No rush really, I'm sure you have a lot to do as it is. May God Bless your new home.

Hi Well if you need help this is the best place to go to learn your style. They have great shows that like work with what you have and they enhance it or they have one that teaches you not to be afraid of color called "Get Color" There is another one called "FIND your Style" This is the only way you will know how to make your home as you disire you can even find some designing tools or links to see how the color you want will look. It's better to see than hear. well i hope this helps good luck!

i like the first answer too, although themed rooms can be hard to redecorate if you decide to change the theme. for the nursery it might be fun to do a jungle theme, kids like animals a lot and its something they can grow with as they get older. avoid using decorations that will go out of style just as fast as they grow!! that seems like a big house for wo people (even though you're growing) use warm colors to make it seem cozy for the two of you in the rooms that you'll be spending a lot of time in. and neutral colors for rooms that you unsure about. when you figure it out, it will cost less to redecorate!!

in case you % to save money, inspect thrift shops and low-priced sales, and easily repaint issues somewhat of paying for for sort new... or looking too no longer basic and dropping time. accessory partitions are cool too on account which you will no longer would desire to color as lots, and it provides a feeling of decor to the room.
