The land was stolen by the Jews, but not when you think. It was stolen several thousand years ago from the Canaanites. (One can believe that it was "given" to the Jews by God, but either (a) God did not own it, so it was not His to give, or (b) God owns all land, so no one can steal land from another person.) Neither the Palestinians nor the Jews nor the British nor anyone else presently under discussion has any legitimate claim until someone pays the Canaanites' heirs.

Contrary to what several persons have posted, the British never owned it; the British "mandate" was an administrative occupation, not a formal annexation.

Was there a Palestine before 1948?

In other words, was there an independent state called Palestine in that location before 1948?

The answer is no.

In light of such facts, who exactly did they steal the land from?

And did you know that between 1948 and 1967 the West Bank was part of Jordan? Are you prepared to call the Jordanians "thieves"?

No - there was a territory that the British ruled that they promised they would give to the Jews. The land had prior to that been administrated by the Turks. There were hundreds of thousand of Jews wanted that homeland living in the territory and of course it was historically the land of the Jews that the Romans tried to eliminate that truth by changing its name to Palestine because those Judean found no peace in Pax Romana. So if you would like to continue the lie that the Jews stole their land back - I'll agree with you on that. Yes we Jews stole back the land that was ours to begin with and should have never been taken from us - we are bad for using the legal process and doing everything ethically and legally to steal our land back. We are so bad that we do things ethically and morally.

Good Luck!!!

There was no country called Israel immediately before 1948, though to be fair as this is a two-sided question, there wasn't a Palestine either. Your logical conclusion from this is decidedly false, however. That there was no country prior to 1948 does not mean that the Jews stole the land. The land was granted to the Jews by the power that controlled it: the British, and later the UN. If you maintain that the British/UN had no authority to do so, then who really has the authority to do anything with land? Prior to British control, the area was under Ottoman control, and so on and so forth until the last people to control the land (who are still around) are the Jews. If the British had no rights over the land by conquest, then why have the Jews lost their right by that very same means? Seems awfully short-sighted and selective to me.
There's basically two options: say the Jews have rights to the land as the oldest people to control said land, or say the Jews have rights to the land through British conquest and British/UN bequeathal. Either way, the Israelis did not steal the land.

Before 1948, the area now occupied by Israel was known as Palestine and it was a British Mandate until the British abandoned it and mayhem broke loose.

Yes, 2 thousand years ago. The Roman Empire kicked out the Jews. They finally returned in 1948

Israel is the promised land for the Jewish people, and it had been that way for 4,000 years, long before Islam existed.
It is in the book of Genesis!

I wonder why "B" thinks Isreal did not exist before 1948. Isreal is an ancient nation. I would love for you to be a Jew for one day...I would love for you to just do a little research into Jewish history. You are full of hate for a nation that simply wants peace. Wow.

The idea of making “Israel” started in 1909; only one year after the west came to know about the oil future in the Middle East.
They made Israel exactly in the center of the Arab world, exactly between Africa and Asia; they give them all the necessary weapons… and they told them keep barking, salivating to scare the Arabs, so Arabs will be busy with the problems you are making and we will steal their oil .. and we “the west” will be the friend of both…
You know,,, sometimes I feel pity for those who are really believing they are chosen, and the promised land,,, IF they are really believing in this nonsense.
