Would it be okay if a girl joins a hapkido class and all the other students are guys. I mean is hapkido too hard for a girl? And is it weird to have a girl in hapkido class?

My daughter has been doing Hapkido since she was 7 now she is 12 and still going strong. A lot of the new boy students that come in there have no idea what she can do till they tango with her on the mat. And most of the time they are bigger than her, and she still takes them down. She's a very tough grappler and she can kick any one them in the head in the blink of an eye. She looks like a little princess, but she will whoop you in a heartbeat if your not careful. I guess I'll be a little less stressed out when she goes out on her first date knowing she can handle her self very well by the time that comes along. Hmmm I guess I had that planned all along..lol p.s. she is one of a 8 girls in the class that have taken Hapkido for a few years. We have a few teenage girls and adult females also. They all work with guys and they work as hard as any of them we dont treat them any differently.

I'm the only girl in my Judo&JuJitsu class. For your first question, It doesn't matter what gender you are, it really matters how much you want to learn hapkido in the first place. Ofcourse it's going to be hard. It's hard for everybody in so many different levels but that doesn't mean it will stop them. It's not the skills, what matters is what you're willing to give to learn hapkido that counts.

For the second question, (in my opinion, I don't really know how the students are like at your MA school) the other male students won't care. The ONLY TIME they will see you any differently is when you are not giving your 110%. They take their training seriously and you should too.

If anything, don't worry what gender you are. That's ALL in the mind. Thinking like that will only be a distraction and an unessecary obstacle in your training.
If there is a will there's a way.
Hopes this helps

of course it would be ok. hapkido has some of the most effective takedowns. hapkido is definitely not too hard for a girl, and I train with girls all the time and it's ok. it's a misconception many people have that martial arts are a "guy sport" but really it's for everyone. Hapkido is a good martial art too. the person who says it's more of a sport is probably refering to WTF taekwondo.

Well its going to be REALLY hard because all the guys would probably out-weigh you. And that style is kind of a ground fighting sport. I am a FIrst Degree Black in Tae-Kwon-Do and girls wooped my butt sometimes because they are quicker than guys. Try joining a more quickness base sport like Tae-Kwon-Do or Tae-Chi or maybe even Wing-Chun.

Of course it's ok! No martial art is too hard for a girl, just give it your best effort.

If you don't feel uncomfortable training with all males then go ahead.

It is more of a sport......a great one at that.

It is my opinion women enjoy more the arts of Aikido, Silat and Wing-Chun
