Padre Pio, a famous fraud, has now been found out. (not that anyone with an ounce of sense did'nt know it was a trick, but like any good magician, finding out the trick, was the hard part).
Now it seems his secret is out; carbolic acid.
I for one cannot fathom the mental insanity that would drive someone to damage themselves in the name of an imaginary sky pixie. But maybe the money was worth it to him.
And of course since he's STILL making money for the church, rome has decided that no further investigation should be done.
Convenient no?

Sentinel,
So, since the church (which by the way profits from MILLIONS of dollars each year by parading the corpse of Pio each year) says that the irrefutable evidence is false, then you as a follower (sheep) say that this must be the case.
You are the perfect cultist. Unable to think for yourself.

Cathy,
yet the church takes the MILLIONS of dollars each year from gullible morons who flock to see the corpse of this con-man huh?
Doesn't stop them from chanting "ching! ching!" everytime they empty the donation box does it?

Actually if you bothered to know anything about Padre Pio you would know that the Church NEVER accepted his stigmata. Banned him from giving Mass while it was under investigation, had examined by 3 doctors. (it was the Vatican that originally founded the idea back in the 1930's that it was done with acid). And hence that is why he wore the gloves he was ordered to cover them up by the Vatican because they were not accepted as true stigmata then or now by the church nor has the Church ever tried to hide the fact that they did not believe it was an authentic stigmata. Which is why no further investigation needs to be done, it was ACCEPTed as false in the 1930's.

He was Canonized for his work among the poor NOT for stigmata. Why someone would do that to themselves I have no idea nor do his reasons matter now.

As usual, someone has come up with a slander about a saint. So far, they've done it to Blessed Mother Teresa, St. Padre Pio, back down the line to Jesus ("He has a devil") and his Apostles ("They're drunk here at 9 in the morning.")*

It seems as if any time someone lives a holy life, obedient to God, they become the target of every kind of lie and slander in the book, the minute that they're dead. That says a lot about the kind of scumwad who has to start a smear campaign.

padre pio's stigmata were never ratified by the church - nor did they contribute any significant part to the process of his beatification.

the information you cite is old news. it was submitted to the committee on beatification by the devil's advocate and ruled irrelevant.

you have a closed and poorly informed mind. this is probably why you read the daily telegraph.

when you have read the full proceedings of the beatification committee feel free to come back here and submit something coherent,

i'll tell you what's convenient. a poor priest affording enough carbolic acid to continue doing that.

it's also pretty convenient that no burns were shown, or skin damaged. or that the wounds had a perfume-type smell. do you know what carbolic acid smells like?

but what's really convenient is that the Vatican was aware of these claims, so it's really not any new news.

i suppose you should also know the stigmata is not one of the miracles recognized to him.
