It is possible you have a reaction to adhesive tape if you had a covering on the tattoo that was taped down.
Or maybe you have a reaction to the lotion, try Curel non fragrance lotion.
ANd if it gets any worse don't take any chances, call your doctor.
That is the only person qualified to give you medical advice.

Some people are allergic to creams such as this one and neosporin which many people think they can use for tattoos, but you shouldn't..

What I recommend the most to my clients is Tattoo Goo or H2Ocean Tattoo Lotion .. And all you need to apply is a thin layer. That's all you need, and it will not affect the colors. It will just help the swelling and the healing. Use these 2 lotions for 3 to 5 days, or longer if you think its not healed completely.

Don't worry if you notice some peeling or scabbing after a week .. its normal. If you notice its a lot of scabbing, then it might be the Cetaphil which MIGHT cause the colors to fade so stop using it.

You should also use sunblock, at least a 30SPF... Or avoid the sun as much as you can as it can damage or fade your tattoo. If you avoid it for at least 2 weeks and you protect it, it will remain vibrant for years to come..

I hope this helps.. Its all I can remember for now but yes, stop using cetaphil ...

I believe the previous answerer is incorrect; I highly doubt your skin is rejecting the ink (and those aren't the symptoms I've seen when it has, but then I'm not a tattoo artist).

Most likely, you're using too much lotion, an extremely common mistake (don't feel bad, a *lot* of people make this error). Perhaps not so much on the tattoo itself, as it needs the lotion, but I'll bet you probably spread it a bit over the surrounding untattooed skin as well.

For moisturizing a new tattoo, less is more. What I generally do is put the lotion to within a millimeter or 3 of the edge of the tattoo and let the natural skin oils (plus bleedover from the lotioning) handle the edge of the tattoo.

This can be tricky if you have lots of fine lines or the tattoo is not a solid piece of art, but it otherwise appears to work well.

For outlining, I barely put anything on at all; my gf's recent work on her back was an outline, and even the small amount of lotion I applied was a teeny bit too much. She had a very minor rash near one area that, once I let up on the lotion, cleared itself right quick.

My artist supports Lubriderm White Unscented. Aveeno and Vasline intensive care also have lotions that are white and unscented. Just read the labels in the lotion isle. You want unscented, Aloe Vera smells kind of ... minty but not really like mint. To me any ways. Buy a lotion or call your artist and ask. That is just what mine told me. He also said that if I wanted to I could keep using A&D but not to use too much of it after a few days if I decided not to switch.

Try using Lubriderm lotion. It does sound like you have a reaction to the Cetaphil lotion. You can also take some Benadryl to reduce the bumps and help with itching.

Cetaphil is not a great one to use. Most places you'd get a tat have a very different oily to dry ratio than the face, as well as different pore placement. While it might be fine to use on your body normally, the delicate/very open skin/pores of a fresh tat can be irritated/ break out from it.

Switch to a mild body moisturizer.

You are prolly breaking out, but I wouldn't worry to much about it. I broke out once and it wasn't the end of the world. I agree with the above poster, just cut back on the lotion.

I would also look into getting yourself some Black Cat Tattoo Goo. It's easily the best thing to put on a tattoo.
