I ask because the 7-0 Patriots are playing the 7-0 Colts and I know God will be watching because football players always thank him for their performances. Should I wait until next weekend about the Iraq thing - just to be safe?

As much as your question is posed with a humorous tone, I think it does illustrate something about religion and its application to both sports and armed conflicts. In both endeavors, you have two opposing sides that pray with equal fervor to God to give them the power to vanquish their opposition. When either side wins, they are quick to credit God, and when either side loses no one seems to attribute that defeat to God’s ineffectuality, or his antipathy of them. Why?

It would seem logical to me that if God has favorites, whether it is in sports, or in war, then the losing side must not have been the side God shined his light upon or he was incapable, if he did like them, to do anything about the outcome. Yet, no one will attest to this when they are on the losing side of a conflict. Talk about being in denial!

Too many people of religion do unfortunately take part of your proposal seriously. They seem to just throw up their hands, as if the situation in Iraq is so futile, that only divine intervention could rectify it. This attitude, which “leaves it up to God”, does nothing but breed complacency in the masses. This complacency, unlike the spirited sports enthusiasts’ pleas to God, does have very serious consequences. People are dying needless because of this complacency. Women, children, and so much innocence is being obliterated because people fail to mobilize themselves in words and in action, because they would rather wrap themselves in the comfortable notions that their spiritual father will right all wrongs.

How much longer will the world suffer, because people are anesthetized by faith? How much longer will we languish in rampant poverty, disease, rape, war, and pervasive criminality, all because so many of the faithful would rather barricade themselves behind the insular environments of their churches, mosques, and synagogues, instead of acting on their intuitive sense of morality and justice? Unfortunately, the answer to that question is not at all comforting.

I once studied to be a communication equipment repair man.
When I finished the course, I worked on equipment that could sample over a thousand conversations in one second. combine those samples onto one signal and send that signal thousands of miles where the samples were divided correctly and sent to the proper receivers so that people all over the globe could communicate simultaneously.
Amazing huh?
God can watch the Game and save lives or eliminate them as the case may be all at the same time.
Cool huh?

Enjoy the game and don't be foolish.

Well, your only allowed to ask for one thing per week. If you already prayed the Pats would beat the Colts, then it would be best to save your request for next Sunday.

That justifies for you not praying for all the soldiers, that are going to die during that time, so that you can watch that Patriots game in the comfort of your house and with peace of mind. DUH!

peace

If you want the Colts to win then you should pray for Iraq. If you prefer the Pats then you should definetly put it off for a few days.

I hope your asking this question in jest. I dare say, the middle east crises is just a little more important than a football game - seriously.

God could not care less about a game.. there is where skills come in. skills are gained by genes or practice.

God always listens, he knows what youre thinking right now!
he wants you to talk to him... but you cant get to god except through Jesus Christ
