Excuse me, but from what I've seen, it is not Christians who are trying to change any law...but only keep other people from changing laws already in place.
Who changed the law allowing school-sponsored prayer? I can remember when it was legal to pray with the students in school.
It was not a Christian who changed that...
Who changed the law making it a crime to abort? And who has been pushing for later and later abortions...right down to "partial birth abortion"??
Not Christians, I'm sure.
Who is screaming about taking Christian symbols of faith down from where they have stood for decades?
Nope, not Christians...
Who is trying to change the law making it illegal for homosexual couples to marry?
Erm...no...not Christians.
For how long as "In God We Trust" been our national motto?
Who wants to change this?
Not Christians.
Who wants to take "One nation under God" out of the pledge of allegiance, although it has been there for fifty years and more?
Nope...not Christians.

How long before someone starts whining about the terms "All men are created equal" or "are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights" in the Declaration of Independence?

From reading all these Q/As, I really think that most atheist on here are either kids or very gullible individuals. There are a few who actually know what they are talking about, the rest I think are just followers who want to be rebellious. Personal opinion.

Yes, you had originally been able to pray in school, and gay marriage has been illegal for a long time, as was all the other things you mentioned. But does that make those laws right?
Okay, we have freedom of religion in this country. Does that mean that you can issue a blatant slap in the face to members of other religions, by making them sit through a teacher-led Bible prayer in a public school? If you were made to tolerate a reading of the Quran in a public school, you would probably be pretty mad or uncomfortable, and if not, you would certainly have a right to be. And it makes no difference if this country was "founded on Christianity" or any of that; even if that was true, it shouldn't mean that we should be able to blatantly disregard the feelings of every person in the room who isn't of that particular faith.
"Under God" in the Pledge is just out of place. It's unnecessary, and it excludes atheists, agnostics and polytheists. Do I actually care that it's in there? Not really. But I also don't understand why it HAS to be in there either.
And the thing about homosexuals marrying... OK, that's been the law for a long time. But does that make it right?

"In god we trust" has only been our national motto for 50 years. I was E PLURIBUS UNUM.
"Under god" was added to the pledge around the same time
School sponsored prayer was never really allowed
At some point Christians did outlaw abortion, and it was repealed. They have cut into Roe v Wade, re late term abortions
Christians are trying to make it illegal for gays to marry (They want a Constitutional amendment).
No historical religious symbols have been removed from anywhere, they just can't put up new ones.
This country is much more diverse than it was 50yrs ago. Catering to a specific religious group is even less acceptable now.
There has never been any law passed, that explicitly has anything to do with Christianity.
You are WRONG on every point.
edit: I would like to know where you think atheists could get the "political might" to get any law passed about anything? Of all the over 300 members of Congress, there is ONE atheist.

"Who changed the law allowing school-sponsored prayer?"
This was NEVER LEGAL. READ THE FIRST AMENDMENT!
" I can remember when it was legal to pray with the students in school."
That doesn't make it legal. Also, you can still pray with students in school, you simply cannot make it MANDATORY PRAYER.
"Who changed the law making it a crime to abort?"
Roe v Wade. Read a bit.
"Who is screaming about taking Christian symbols of faith down from where they have stood for decades? "
This is NOT a Christian nation, moron. Those symbols are ILLEGAL in a gorenrmental legal setting.
"Who is trying to change the law making it illegal for homosexual couples to marry?
Erm...no...not Christians."
BS! Christians make up the overwhelming majority of people trying to make gay marriage illegal.
"For how long as "In God We Trust" been our national motto?
Who wants to change this?"
MORON! It wasn't there until 1957 on paper money and 1864 on coins!! CHRISTIANS PUT IT THERE!!!
Read a bit before you go making sh!t up!
"Who wants to take "One nation under God" out of the pledge of allegiance, although it has been there for fifty years and more?"
It shouldn't have been there in the first place. Radical Christians put it there, we merely want it put back the way it was before you messed with it.
"How long before someone starts whining about the terms "All men are created equal" or "are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights" in the Declaration of Independence?"
You do know that 'creator' there is in reference to a deist creator; as was popular in that era, right?
"Who keeps twisting the First Amendment, which guarantees "Freedom OF Religion"...and make it "Freedom FROM Religion"??
Erm....
You guessed it!
Not Christians!!"
The first amendment says that there shall be no law establishing or respecting any religion, nor any religious test required to hold office. Nothing more, nothing less. Get your fats straight.

+ School Prayer +
As early as 1890, Catholic Christians were one of the first groups to protest public school prayer. Catholics were being forced to pray in ways that went against thier beliefs. This broke the LAW of the Freedom of Religion as protected in the Constitution of the United States of America.
People try to look for simple ways of solving complicated problems but sometimes just create more problems.
Some people think that school prayer will make children better or nicer or more Godly.
Most people think school prayer will infringe on the students' freedom of religion. What kind of prayer is prayed when you have Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Wiccans, Agnostics, and Atheists in the same classroom?
It is unreasonable to compromise everyone's values to come up with some bland prayer that will be acceptable to everyone.
The Catholic Church agrees with the U.S. Constitution as currently interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court and does not support "structured" prayer in public schools.
In the Vatican II document, Declaration on Religious Freedom, Dignitatis Humanae (Human Dignity), the Church states:
The human person has a right to religious freedom. This freedom means that all men are to be immune from coercion on the part of individuals or of social groups and of any human power, in such wise that no one is to be forced to act in a manner contrary to his own beliefs, whether privately or publicly, whether alone or in association with others, within due limits.
Children will continue to privately pray before tests just like they always have.

Well yes, I guess you have somewhat of some kind of point. This country was, I think, influenced by God and the some Laws associating with Him. Why change what the founding fathers based this country on? Maybe people who do are in the wrong country. Once the pledge of allegiance is changed, I'm gone for sure. We'll see how a nation does without God.

"It was not a Christian who changed that..."
Oh yeah? It was a church-going Christian Protestant student named Ellery Schempp who saw how the mandatory prayers were bothering his Catholic and Jewish friends, so he protested and filed suit. The name of the case is Abington vs. Schempp. You've bought the lie that it was Madalyn Murray O'Hair.
Schempp stayed busy after his act at age 16- graduated from Tufts, then got his doctorate in physics from Brown U. where his 1968 thesis eventually led to the development of the MRI.
Our founding fathers gave us a beautiful motto: E Pluribus Unun (from many, one). The Red Scare of the 1950s changed that, so barely 50s years is the answer to your question about our motto.
The Pledge was written in the late 19th century by a socialist Baptist pastor who did not include "Under God". And I wonder, which free nation requires a loyalty oath? Under the First Amendment, is that not coerced speech?
You have really failed Rhetoric 101, all of you.

"Under God" was not in the original pledge, which was originally written by a Batpist minister WITHOUT those two words.
It was a CHRISTIAN who wrote the original pledge without the words "Under God" and politicians who CHANGED the pledge to include the words "UNDER GOD".
Also, our ORIGINAL National motto was "E Pluribus Unum" it was CHANGED to "In God we Trust".
Forcing public school children to recite prayers is wrong, I don't care how long it has been allowed, it is wrong to FORCE non-Christian children to participate in RELIGIOUS devotional excercises. I don't care if "it's alwasy been dont that way" or if the practice started yesterday.
You think God wants to hear the prayers of LIARS ???? Because forcing someone to praise God if they don't believe is making a LIAR out of them. You think that is what God wants ?
Slavery was around at the begining of our Nation. You think that change was wrong ?

Christians, like Jews before them, believe in the Rule of Law.
This was based on respect for humanity, as individuals;-}
not like feudal/monarchy systems, which depended on status.
