system restore will restore your computer to a previous point. Most computers are set up to automatically create restore points, usually every day. It will roll back any program changes (adds/deletions) that you've made. You can also 'un-restore' and roll the computer back to the current date. This is usually helpful only when a program becomes corrupt or somthing like that...

System Restore takes a 'snapshot' of your pc at any given time. If you use System Restore, it will return your pc to a point in time when it took that snapshot.
Say you install a Driver that screws everything up, you could restore to a point before you installed it to (hopefully) return everything to normal.
To access System Restore, head to:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

system restore restores your computer to a previously good state. look for it under help and support...or right click on my computer, then properties, then the system restore tab.

SYSTEM RESTORE:
Restores your backed up registries and settings to that specified date of backup.
It cannot restore lost data or data loss. (only system configurations)
