Many Baptists do think for themselves.
I was Baptist for a time after abandoning Pentecostalism. I thought for myself; hence, I didn't stay Baptist.
I think most Baptists have no idea of the extent to which they're victims of propaganda. The whole language of Protestantism, and the whole structure of Protestant Bible education, are designed to combat Catholicism. The curricula used in most Sunday Schools are carefully designed to twist the meaning of anything the typical Catholic layperson might say, to reinforce all the misinformation.
Whatever you say to a typical Baptist, he will think you said something different, because Baptist language interprets Catholic language in a special way.
For example, when you say that Baptism saves you, Baptists assume you're saying that your own works initiated your salvation, because Baptists consider Baptism to be a work of the recipient.
But to make matters worse, when you explain to them that it is actually a work of the person performing the baptism, it only works against you because once again, they hear something quite different from what you said. Since Baptists believe in eternal security, what they hear you saying is that a person can receive baptism by no choice of his own, and then expect to get to Heaven without any confirmation or repentance.
So for the typical Baptist, it is not a matter of "always accepting hatred." It is a matter of years of faulty Bible instruction that cause them to always (and quite innocently) misinterpret every word that comes of a Catholic's mouth.
The most effective Catholics in any discussion with Baptists are the ones who learn and use Protestant language and concepts. For example, the priest who explained the Immaculate Conception to me as neither more nor less than the same salvation we all receive, with the exception that it was specially granted to Mary at the moment of her conception so that she was preserved from all sin. Or, the book a Catholic friend gave me which opened with a Catholic interpretation of the Bread of Life Discourse, expressed in Protestant terms with Protestant-style analysis of the text. Things like this are what force honest Baptists to reevaluate the things they've been taught.

Who's spewing hate now? Have you been to many Baptist churches so that you know that all of them have hatred-spewing pastors? I happen to think that many Baptists are more conservative than I am, but I don't see that as a reason to be disrespectful and hateful. (which, no offense, is what you're doing right now.)

Speaking for myself, and the ones I know, we think for ourselves. We look over all sides of the story, and compare everything to the Bible, as the Bereans did.
Whatever is not backed up by scripture we avoid, and warn others of. This goes for ANY doctrine we may hear of, Catholic OR Protestant.

Well we know what the ones from Westboro do. But not all feel the same as these lunatics.
Besides if you don't like them spewing stuff about Catholics then maybe you shouldn't be so general about them...hence the irony in your question.

Most of us who grew up in fundamental bible-based congregations - at least learned one thing very early on - don't trust what anybody says about the word of God, even your pastor!
Always look it up for yourself.

You should always read scripture no matter how good you Pastor is, to prove what you are being taught is correct.
