This guy in a truck backed into my car last night, gave me his cell phone number, let me copy down his driver's license info, and said he would pay for the damage and wouldn't give me his insurance info. He is ignoring my calls now.

Is there a way I can get in touch with someone's insurance company if I have their driver's license number, name, address on driver's license, and license plate number?

Talk to your own insurance company on this one....with the privacy act in place, trying to get info is a tough one to do at best.
Sounds like the person who damaged your vehicle is "trying to dodge a bullet" , so to speak.

Good luck

If you have NOT filed a police report, DO IT NOW. As to the failure to show you his insurance info, that is a dead ringer for a deadbeat. It is illegal to operate a car on the road without insurance. When you have an accident CALL the police. Had he tried that no insurance crap on them they would have taken him STRAIGHT to the pokey (No insurance-involved in an accident-yep he's guilty) and impounded his car.

Not a swift move on your part. IF you have uninsured motroist coverage on you policy, bullits to BS says you will be footing the bill for this damage with a 250 insurance deducttible.

PS I really like Joker69's answer. VERY resourceful.

Since it seems he has an answering machine, leave a message with a time limit to call you back. Let him know you will then file a police report. This is what seems to happen to "nice guys" that don't call the police in accidents. I would never do this again after having the same problems you are now experiencing.

Call him and tell him you're calling the cops and report it as a hit and run and that you got the license plate number if he doesn't call you back. Then wait and if he doesn't then do it and then you can call your insurance with the police report.

Do two things...file a police report and contact your insurance. They will help get him to do what is necessary to get your car fixed.
