16 Ways to Get Rid of Acne

Whether you're a teen or an adult with acne, you don't have to simply put up with it. Here are 16 ways to get rid of acne.

1a. Don't pick, press, rub, pop, or otherwise manipulate your pimples. If you do, you risk spreading the bacteria and increasing the chances of scarring.

1b. If your pimple has "come to a head" (the top of it is white, yellow, black, or green), then you can usually get it to open up & clean out naturally by applying a hot compress. Put a washcloth with hot water, as hot as you can stand without getting burned onto it, and let it sit there till the washcloth cools.

2. Use an over-the-counter product containing benzoyl peroxide once or twice a day. It helps break up the plug of dead skin cells, bacteria, and oil that clogs the pore and forms an acne blemish. And it cuts down on the bacteria, too. Start with the lowest concentration, and work your way up.

3. Try over-the-counter products containing sulfur, salicylic acid, or resorcinol, which help unplug oil glands by exfoliating the skin. However, most dermatologists believe that benzoyl peroxide is the most effective over-the-counter ingredient for acne.

4. Don't just spot-treat acne; put the product on all acne-prone areas, too. That can include your entire face (avoid the lips and eyes), your back, and your chest.

5. Go easy on your face. Washing removes oils from the surface of the skin, not from within the plugged ducts. In fact, if you're too aggressive in your quest for cleanliness, you may end up drying out or irritating the sensitive skin on your face.

6. Wash properly once or twice a day, using a mild soap or Proactive Solution, and rub lightly with your fingertips and warm water. If your skin is oily, use a soap with benzoyl peroxide for its drying properties.

7. Don't use brushes, rough sponges, cleansers with granules or walnut hulls, or anything similar on the delicate facial skin. Such things are OK on back & chest areas though.

8. Don't use oily products, such as hair pomades, oil-based facial moisturizers, sunscreens that contain oil or wax, makeup that isn't oil-free, or oily cleansers.

9. Use ONLY water-based (oil-free) make-up. Mineral makeup (sold on TV infomercials) is great too.

10. Don't get a facial. You may end up doing more harm than good.

11. Don't rest your chin on your hands. Avoid constantly touching your face.

12. Protect your skin from cancer and wrinkles without aggravating your acne by choosing an oil- free sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.

13. Don't worry too much about what you eat, unless you notice a correlation between a particularly oily/fatty food and your skin breaking out. There is some empirical evidence indicating that foods high in oils or fats may worsen acne, but it hasn't been proven yet.

14. Watch out for excess iodine, which can be found in multiple vitamins and iodized salt. Some doctors believe iodine may encourage acne.

15. Increased exposure to sunlight, & increased exercise, as a result of reduced computer use, may help some people. The UV in sunlight is antibacterial. Also, exercise causes the pores to open up, so that also can sometimes reduce acne.

16. If all else fails, see a doctor about taking Accutane to get rid of the acne. This is a last resort option, since Accutane is hard on the liver, is costly, and can have some serious side effects.

Hi there,
This is a home remedy that you will need to purchase from an East Indian grocery store. When you go in ask for Vicco Turmeric cream. This cream has Turmeric and Sandalwood that is very famous in India for dealing with acne. Every morning and at bed time wash your face using cold water and non-soap face wash, after drying your face, apply Vicco cream all over your face. Remember never use warm or hot water on your face. Cold water closes of your pours so that once clean dirt can not get into your pores. Don't use soap on your face either, it will only dry out portions of your facial skin. Try this cream and also don't stop using it even after you get rid of your acne problem. It is all natural and will only improve the condition of your skin. This cream is specially developed for skin disorders. Let me know if it works. (Everyone in the past that I have suggested this to has worked) I hope if helps you as well. Good Luck

i answered a question similar to yours. my carpal tunnel is acting up so i'll just post what i said on the other question and hopefully that will help you:

well, i had something similar to yours and i went to a spa, but i didn't get a facial, i got it popped. if you want to take care of this yourself, do not pop it! putting ice on acne makes it smaller. theoretically, if the pimple is coming to a head (it's white) and seemed really irritated, it could be ready to pop. the only way to pop a zit/pimple without scarring yourself is to put a really hot washcloth on it. i've told many people to do this and it worked, and they were so happy. i suggest trying the hot washcloth method first, and if it doesn't work, just use the ice regularly while using your normal face washing routine. if you want to do a home facial, try a strawberry facial. also, you can use frutels, a gummy vitamin that you can eat that gets rid of acne. it works extremely well on my skin. also, being on the computer less, getting more exercise and sunlight helps your complexion. i went to a yoga retreat for 10 days and there were no electronics and we exercissed all the time and did plenty of yoga and ate healthy. my skin was completely clear.
-eat healthy food
-exercise and be outdoors more
-use the hot wascloth method
-stick to your usual face washing routine and use ice when going to public places

This worked for my son. Cut out sweets while you take , Caprilic acid for two weeks and Grape seed extract for two weeks, you may need to add probiotics, if you have taken antibiotics in the last year. These supplements are at the health food store and if you use them for a couple months, you will be in great condition. This worked, where the dermatologists couldn't. It will cost less than a trip each week to the dermatologists and antibiotics with special cleanser too.

It may seem strange to use an oil to assist with oily skin, but I would suggest you try using Jojoba Oil it is a great natural skin moisturizer Jojoba Oil is almost identical organically-speaking to sebum, which is the natural oil produced by your skin. Studies on jojoba oil show that it has the ability to prevent skin from becoming too oily. This is due to the fact that putting jojoba oil on our skin can trick our cells into thinking they have produced enough oil. Remove any surface dirt and makeup from your skin, then put just a few drops of jojoba oil into your hand and rub it into your skin when you start to work jojoba oil into the skin, the oil penetrates into the pores. As jojoba closely resembles your skin's own oil, moisturizing with jojoba oil sends the message to your pores to stop overproducing the sebum that causing the oily skin. As well as being a great natural moisturizer it can also help with acne, Jojoba Oil penetrates into the skin without clogging pores and is suitable for all skin types it contains vitamin E and antioxidants which are great for fighting aging signs and moisturizing the skin. Hope this helps!

Acne or pimples are usually a result of hormonal changes and an irregular and increased production of oil by the sebaceous glands. Check out http://useinfo-acne.blogspot.com/ for more useful info.
