I will be using this strictly for playing movies, not recording. Also, I'm considering an all-in-one TV/DVD player vs a separate TV and DVD player. How is the reliability of these units?

Do not go with the integrated DVD & TV units. None of them are HD or BluRay and these units often times have LESS external inputs than others. A separate TV and DVD player is likely to be better longer term and more flexible.

The format war is not over. I suspect Christmas might show a lean one way or the other, but it's too early to tell.

because of inclusion of blu-ray in the ps3, there will be 10 situations greater blu-ray gamers on the industry while in comparison with HD-DVD. Blu-Ray will win. yet this basically rather applies to those with HDTV's and that remains a area of interest industry. Blu-ray will win, yet in the grand scheme of issues that's merely no longer a VHS vs. Betamax style of win.
