I work in a VERY negative atmosphere! I work in a truck stop that's full of gossipy, hateful shrews who remind me that I don't fit in. Also, I have a boss who yelled at us, glared at us, and threatened us at the last meeting, because some of us had failed to perform certain tasks we didn't know we were supposed to do. I cannot stand being talked down to like some child who's misbehaved! For that matter, I wouldn't even talk to a child like that myself, and actually if I did, I would be accused of verbal abuse. I work two jobs as it is. This is my full-time job and I earn $6.75 an hour there. I also work 15 hours a week at another job where I earn $12 an hour. I live alone and I'm the only source of income I have. Part of me is hesitant to call in and say that I'm finished with them, but another part of me wants to tell them all to just go to hell. If I called in and told them that I quit, could I just go to a temp agency on Monday and try to find something there? What do you suggest?

the good angel is saying give two weeks but the other part is saying screw them don't even call in and go to a temp agency on monday. have them mail the last check to you. all that for 6.75? yeah right! let's go with the bad angel, go to the temp agency, drop off your uniform if you have any, and tell them to mail your check.

If you give 2 weeks, you'll probably be told to leave immediately, anyway. Sounds like you work in an intolerable atmosphere. Perhaps you should put everything in writing, as briefly as possible, and close with the two week notice. Keep a copy of the letter and send a copy to the business owner, if appropriate. Then, after the yelling is over, go to the temp agency. You don't need the aggravation!

It's always best to give 2 weeks notice to an employer.
It shows that you have respect for the relationship of employer and employee and this is something future employers will look at.
Looking from your own point of view, if you quit abruptly, it's fairly obvious from your explanation that it will be harder on you than on him. Although you might achieve some inner argument, the fact is you will be cutting your income in half.
He will just see another punk trying to take advantage of him.
Before you go off on a tantrum, you should consider having a job lined up BEFORE you give your two weeks notice.
These types of incidents are common to any work environment. How you react to them is what is going to be important for your future in the adult working world.
There's nothing wrong with looking out for NUMBER ONE.
HOW you do that is the key.

It is customary to give two weeks notice when quitting. A temp agency might be less willing to place you if you did not give notice to your last job.
Also, rather than going to a temp agency, I would suggest trying to get your hours on the $12/hr job increased to full time, as that would bring in more money ($480 per week) than the part-time work there ($180 per week) and the current full-time job ($270 per week) do, combined.

either check out the temp agency and just sign forms for now or look for a different kind of job.
Please be sure to give your 2 weeks' notice. Whoever you sign on with for your next position, temp agency or not, does have the right to contact your last employer as a reference of your character.

This happened to me once. I got yelled at for something they really didnt need to yell at me about and they did it as i was going on break. Want to know what i did? I was sooo mad at them i never came back from my break. They are paying you too little for you to put up with that. The unemployment rate is still low enough that there are lots of people looking for workers.
I personally dont like to put up with anything like that and i once quit a job on my second day because the boss yelled at someone else that started the same day as me. If a boss likes to yell at someone else, i know it wont be long before they yell at me. LIfe is way to short to live in fear of your boss.

Don't burn your bridges until you have another job lined up.
Go to the temp agency and see what they have for you.
Check your local paper or just go to different businesses you think you might like to work for and apply in person. They just might like your spunk!
Whatever you decide, don't stay in a job you hate. It isn't worth it.

I wouldn't do that.
I would put in my two weeks (write or type out a note that explains that your last day at work is ____ and thank them for the opportunity to work with them. Signed _____).
Start looking for a new job right now.
Good luck!

Go to the temp agency first to make sure they have something for you. Offer your bad job two weeks' notice. If they don't wnat to keep you, that's their decision, but you can say you offered notice.
