I'm currently a GS11, and my finance is an E-5 in the Navy. I just moved to Naples, Italy and he's still stateside, but up to start negotiating orders in December. Naturally, we want to get him over here. If we were to marry sooner than later, would the fact that I'm a GS11 over here help him when it comes to trying to get orders over here? I'm getting conflicting stories and am wondering if anybody knows for sure. I don't know if my being already here could have any bearing on his orders. Even if someone could steer me in the right direction for Regs to look at, I would appreciate it. Thank you so much for all of your help!

From what I understand, you actually would have to follow him. He is the one in the military, even though you "outrank" him you would have to see where he gets orders to and then try to get yourself transfered. Wheather you two are married or not it has no bearing. Only if you were both actually in. I knwo it sucks but when you marry a military man you also marry the military and you do what they tell you to do. Im a stay at home mom whats the point of a career when you move every two years. I love it though and wouldnt trade it for the world.

No. Needs of the Navy are it. I outranked my military spouse (both of us with actual military grades) and it didn't do a thing. Maybe if you were an SES you'd have crazy mad pull with BUPERS, but as an 11? Please.

P.S. I know you put it in quotes, but get over the idea that you "outrank" him. He's in, you're not, the end.

His detailer will work to get him orders there IF he gets on the ball and lets the detailer know what's going on. He should give the detailer a heads-up now. There's no reg that requires the detailer to do it, it's common courtesy.

Of course, like everything else, there are no guarantees in life. If there's no available billet the detailer can't send him.

You're talking APPLES and ELECTRON TUBES. One has NOTHING to do with the other. No one is 'OUT RANKED'. You're a CIVILIAN, he's MILITARY. You're not married to him.

We did have a GS-9 whose wife was a Lcdr. She got orders to Yokosuka, Japan. He was able to pick up a position at NSD Yokosuka. .

none whatsoever. you have ZERO pull. the fact that you are GS employee has no bearing at all.

The GS system is nothing like the military system and the 'equivalents' are only a courtesy.
