Because they are already outsiders (for various reasons) whether because of social structure or self-imposed.
Seeking minority religions - especially ones that seem somehow 'anti-establishment' (regardless of the truth of what those religions teach) is another way of enforcing the outsider role.
However, it is seldom a means to an end. Most kids who pick up witchcraft as a fashion statement "grow out of it".
The ones that go on to serious spiritual study are the ones that stay in their new found religions, and that tends to be a small number of these teen converts.

it is not any longer in easy words lazy, in spite of the indisputable fact that that's misguided. Having God back contained in the faculties will do no good in any respect if there is not any longer God contained in the living house at the same time as they go back. Then, there is the more advantageous urgent problem of WHICH God (or Gods) to position in the authorities and colleges. interior christianity on my own, there are over 22,000 diverse sects, and all imagine they have it accurate, and that the OTHERS have it incorrect. a lot so, that there are those churches who have self assurance all different denminations are going to Hell, even in spite of the indisputable fact that their midsection idea of Jesus because the Savior is an same. imagine the loose for all which will ensue at the same time as all of those sects of christianity as well as each and every of the sects of alternative religions conflict it out to vie for the right to have their faith taught in college! What a loose-for-all which will be! in spite of the indisputable fact that, freedom of religion isn't freedom FROM faith. i do not see any clarification why childrens can not carry prayers in colleges so long because it isn't cumpulsory for all scholars. i'm an atheist, and that i don't have the slightest soreness with declining such invites. I is merely no longer partaking, in spite of the indisputable fact that it would not, and could no longer, hardship me in any respect. So, enable scholars, lawmakers, whoever, get which comprise different like-minded human beings to wish and ask for the help of in spite of the actuality that imaginary buddy they have self assurance in. do exactly no longer make others who do not percentage those beliefs might want to, or experience that they might want to, take area. They think it's evil... lol. I got into the good side of wicca for awhile because they worship the earth and the energys around it. I used to wear a small pentagram for protection and as a good luck charm. People thought that it was the sign of the devil, but the sign of the devil is an upside-down star (goathead). It shows how little they appreciate peoples beliefs and it shows that they're willing to do anything for attention.

They aren't taking up real witchcraft. They are practicing their own stylized and perverted version of it. The same goes for vampyrism, trying to pretend to know anything about it but actually just doing some perverted ritual.
They think it places themselves in a dark place without being lost or helpless, but rather as being in a position to obtain strength. They are wrong. Real Wiccan rituals aren't about darkness but rather the light.

Im not sure why they are taking it up...seems to be the "cool" thing to do now. It is sad that witchcraft got such a bad rap...the wiccan philosophy is really about nature and harmony and peace.

It's a way to "Rebel" and show how "dark and bad" they are.
I remember when I first started in witchcraft, I had a book with me in school and two girls looked at me and scoffed.
"We went through that phase two years ago," they told me.
Eight years later....I'm still in it. A bit more than a phase I think.

Just another form of their immature silliness. Harmless growing up. I just hope they all make it to adulthood in one piece. I want them to be able to laugh at themselves later in life. Like many of us do.
