I wanted to be a cop. Glad now that I am older that I am not. To me, now that I am older and wiser, and seen more, it's like being a garbage man. You deal with the garbage day in and day out, and there is alot of it. I praise the police that can deal with that crap on a daily basis. I would not have been able to. I wanted to be a police because of the intrigue of the job. Now I know its 5% intrigue and 95% BS. Picked on? I don't think there are very many cops that lasted long because of that reason. If the bad guys don't see your weakness, your cop buddies will, and cops do pick on each other all the time, and if you can't handle that, you won't make it.

I took the job because I got falsely arrested. It made me mad and so I got into law enforcment to try and keep that from happening again. the picked on thing is just like the doughnut stories...highly overrated. before law enforcement, I was a teacher. I like jobs that make you feel as if you have accomplished something at the end of the day.

they say that anyone seeking the job of politician or policeman is automatically the wrong person for the job - l guess you are really asking if wimps join to look tough and throw their weight around - out of the thousands of police officers there are there must be some - but on the whole this not the case.

l joined the police when l came out of the Navy because l thought it was a job where l could do some good and help and protect people and of course solve crimes - seems corny in this day and age l know, but at the time that's what l felt - l am a little older, wiser and more cynical now......

Where does this stuff come from?

My father was in law enforcement before I was born and I wanted to be a cop for as long as I can remember. I graduated High School when I was 16 and was not ever picked on in school. I started applying when I was 19 and was hired when I was 20. I actually wanted to help people and put trash where it belongs, in jail. :)

No, I chose my job as a Correctional Officer because of the money. No one picked on me. It was just a good job that allowed me to take care of my daughter and my self and not have to count on any one else to pay our way.
