The tougher question is, will forks and spoons eventually be naturally selectd out as the spork is their superior?

Because there is no evolution! Sporks, spoons, and forks were all created by a (supposedly) intelligent creator. Each was lovingly designed for their own specific purpose. Do we have any record of missing links between the three? No. They all exist in the forms in which they were originally created.

Crocoducks haven't yet figured out how to use a Spork. Plus, if you look at the shape of a banana... oh, nevermind. But I would also imagine that peanut butter is easier to scoop out of a jar with a Spork--however, NOT with a fork!

If you have a mouse with a long tail and its whole family has a long tail we have one type of mouse.

If a gene is slightly changed and there is a litter of mice and one mouse has a short tail this could be the beginning of a new type of mouse.

Many, many times there are litters of mice born and eventually short tailed mice interbreed and more and more short tailed mice become.

As this goes on, we begin to have a separation of long and short tailed mice. Evolution has provided us with two groups of mice. Remember this change is taking place in one area so there are billions of other long tailed mice all over the continent. These mice remain successful and do not go extinct.

Lets say that the short tailed mice also become successful. They will then multiply and also not go extinct. So now we have two separate types of mice living at the sometime.

This type of thing can happen in a different way. Suppose there was a climate change (different mice here) and the dominant mice were poorly adapted to survive the change. Mice often are born with gene changes and the great majority of these changes are poor and these mice do not survive to promote that gene. But, say that as the environment change gradually causes the dominant mice to die off there is a gene change (this change may have occurred many tears earlier but the dominant mice prevailed) and this change was one that would allow this type of mouse to more easily survive in the environmentally changed world. As these new mice survived to reproduce they eventually would become the dominant mouse and the "old model" would become extinct.

In this situation only the one mouse type survives to continue on.

we still need forks for meats and stuff. Try picking up a nice chunk of steak on a spork, its not easy let me tell you. you need a real fork in that situation.

Because in the untensil drawer (their natural environment), forks still serve the function of keeping the other silverware in line. Until another piece of silverware develops the function of stabbing, the forks will always have a place.

Oh, wait, what about the knives...?
