I bought my 60GB PS3 from Ebay back in December last year for $685. I know that I paid about $20-$30 dollars more than if I would have bought it in a store, but right after the PS3 launch as you probably already know, there weren't any PS3's to be found in any stores, and I wanted to buy a PS3 for Christmas so bad so I got it.
I'm glad to hear that you are looking for a 60GB PS3 instead of the 80GB because of the increased backwards compatibility. I wouldn't really expect any deals on PS3's in stores right now but there might be deals on them near Christmas season though. But, the PS3 is worth the price without any deals or discounts really.

I got my 60GB PS3 from Best Buy. Best Buy gives you one free game with a purchase of a 60GB PS3. You can only choose between Lair and Heavenly Sword however. The Best Buy that I went to had about 50 60GB PS3s stacked on top of each other so no need to hurry...well, if you live in my area...
P.S. I bought a PS3 about 1 week ago.

i got my 60GB PS3 for $570 at Costco (price is probably cheaper)
I bought mine at Costco because the sales lady said i could always return it anytime i wish, even 3 years from now like i did with my broken psp. I think they discontinued the 60Gb, and they are now only selling weaker 80gb models. at some stores like bestbuy, they still have plenty in stock cuz no one wanted it.

I got mine from Toys-R-Us, but I got the 80 gb one because are me (North FL), 60 gb models are sold out and they stopped making them. If you want, there will be a 40 gb model for $400 that releases this month. It comes with a Spiderman 3 blu-ray disc, but the system lacks backwards compatibility.

Get the 60gig the 60gig is rare now so goto stores that don't have high volume of console sales. The 60gig shouldn't be any more than $499. BUY IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
