It depends on the thickness of the noodles. Be sure that the pot is at least 1/3 full of water. Bring water to a boil on high, then add noodles. For angel hair pata (thin), boil for 3-5 minutes. For spaghetti pasta (regular), boil for 5-7 minutes. For fettucini pasta (thick), boil for 10-13 minutes. Check the pasta to see if ready by taking out a strand with a fork. If the noodle is flexible and limp on the fork, and no longer hard or crunchy when chewed, it's ready.

Usually eight (8) minutes after the water comes back to a boil.
After about 6 test a strand against the side of the pot.
It should be fully cooked but not mushy.
remember it will continue to cook a little from its own heat after you remove it from the water.
Bon Apetite

Boil for 10-15 minutes, test a noodle, see if it's the right softness for you.
If it isn't soft enough, keep checking every 3-5 minutes.

it is a common saying that "when it sticks to the wall, its done." to avoid the mess, simply scoop out a piece while cooking and take a bite, if you see a white area (can be the size of the head of the needle) it is not done. once it is soft it is good. it can be eaten not fully cooked which is called "al dente" which is very common in true italian cooking. it really depends on your preference. if you want it completely cooked, but not to the point of falling apart, bite into it and check for the white dot.

Do you want them al dente? If so 7 mins in to the cooking process, then take a piece out and throw it at the ceiling if it sticks it's done.
Bon appetit! ;)

It usually depends on the brand of spagetti and if it's fresh or not. I'm guessing your using the boxed kind, which usually takes about 8-10 minutes.
