They didn't have TV back then and those trips on ships could take a long time.
Look at the amount of stuff written by Thomas Aquinas. Few people today even have time to READ it, let alone write that amount of work.

Paul is a very creative, brilliant fellow isn't he? However I prefer Paul McCartney's writings over Paul (Saul of Tarsus) any day. At least Paul McC isn't a misogynist.
