I'm going to tryout on it for midstate. I want to know know how high to go on the chromatic scale. I'm trying out in The Tn.

Unless they have a specific requirement for more - most of the time bass clarinet players demonstrate a range of Eb below the staff to C above the staff. Some will want 3 octaves from E because that's what they expect the sopranos to play.

If your instrument has an extension then by all means do 3 octaves on C. Very rarely do we need to be up over the C above the staff but you should go ahead and learn up to about G since it does happen sometimes (because some arrangers have no common sense and don't know where the sweet spot on a bass clarinet is).

I've been known, when asked to play above the high C on bass clarinet, to take out an alto clarinet and explain that the bass sounds like garbage up there and won't be in tune. That, of course, won't get you a seat in the midstate ensemble. ☺
