Appreciate those who have answered so far.... lots of passion... what about the 3rd question? Any examples of how faith brought you through you an extraordinary ordeal? Yes, Sam... you have a point... if I had been a bit more specific, maybe the focus of the answers would have taken a different path...

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." --Hebrews 11:1.

Even in the darkest days, one can always find hope when you focus on the brightest light.

Peace be with you.

Many don't know the definition of the word so how could they answer your question. What do you think faith is, without quoting Hebrews 11:1? Faith is to: Rely on, Trust in, Adhere to. Hebrews 11:1 says "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." If we, any of us, actually practiced this, we wouldn't have sickness and disease. So, if we are honest with ourselves and each other, we may know what faith means, but we do NOT practice it.

Faith in what you believe in, comes from your spiritual practices, and their affect on your character. Also you will get feedback in your life, that you are tuned in spiritually. I meditate, do mind-body exercise, eat healthy, and control my indulging. This makes me feel really strong spiritually, since I push the edge in my mind-body exercises. Since my focus is almost exclusively in the spiritual, I tend to be fearless, when ever I come upon a moral issue, or I find someone in need of spiritual confort or inspiration. I do have a pretty strict spiritual training routine. Personally with the life I have had, I would not be still here if I did not have my valuable beliefs to offer others and myself.

To a practicing Muslim faith means believing every thing God and His Messenger said what to do and what not to do, worshipping God as Prophet did, and living his/her life submitting to the will of God. Which means as has been told by Quran and Messenger of God including practicing all five pillars of Islam.
1. Daily Prayer 2. Fasting 3. Paying Zakat (poor tax)
4. Performing Haj 5. Jihad (Struggle for self improvement ) as well as fighting for Islam against enemies of Islam by their resources, by their abilities and if possible by physical fight when necessary.

Those who die fighting against enemies of Islam do not die but their souls are sent straight to heaven without any waiting period.

When Muslims lived their lives as mentioned above, they were able to defeat Roman, Byzantine and Persian empires even they were always out numbered by the enemy forces.

To believe see the documentay ''EMPIRE OF FAITH"
available from CNN. Also see the movie KINDGOM OF HEAVEN, in which Salahuddin General of Muslims let all the defeated Christians go unharmed and didn't butchered all Christians like Crusaders did to Muslims and Jews in Palestine when they first raided Jerusalem.

That is a dark spot on the History of Christianians.

I don't have a faith. But I'd like to tell you about someone. A girl in my school is Muslim, she says her day revolves around Allah, or God. She has the strongest faith in Allah I have ever seen. And she accepts the fact I'm Atheist. Soon I'll get to read her Koran when she brings it to school.
