what the first person said, and also they don't use electricity or other modern things because they feel that connects them to the rest of the world, and they want to be separated from the world in their Amish community. It is a very interesting way of living, isn't it?

I think it goes to the Bible where it talks about being separate from the world. Also, the Bible says we are to be a peculiar people. Well, when you truly live for God you just seem to stick out.

the scriptures say to not be lovers of the world. they also say to come out of babylon......the amish strive to do just that. while i dont like their way of doing things- i respect them for what they are and admire them for their perseverance in an evil world to be different from the world.

I believe that they live humbly as it translates to being closer to God.

Being lavish and outlandish is related to material possessions, and thus not being close with God.
