It is a yellowy colour and smells similar to a period but not as strong.

She doesn't have it all the time but mainly when she first wakes up.

I'm not sure wheter or not to take her to the doctors as she seems fine and isn't itchy.

vaginal discharge (as well as vaginal infection) does not occur only in adult women
In younger girls, however, excess bacteria in the vagina is the likely reason for vaginal discharge. Young girls often do not have good hygiene habits and that, combined with the rectum's closeness to the vagina, can lead to the presence of a vaginal discharge
because of her age
i would go get it checked out just to be sure

Take her to the doctor! Better be safe than sorry. You may even want to take her to the ER, it could be a serious infection. Better be safe than sorry. Good luck!

She could have an infection. Ask her doctor to check things out.

This is not normal... go to the doc right now... if your doc is not in the office at this hour.... GO TO THE ER
